I’m still in pieces over it.
Just finished the anime last night. It’s been on my list for a long time but i hadn’t gotten the chance to watch it. I went in blind(ish)- all I knew is that it was an amazing story, but raw, and tragic- but nothing about the plot or the characters….
It’s been a day since I finished it now, and wow I’m still so upset, still so sad, still so angry, and still wiping away tears every time it comes to mind. Every character became my friend to love, my reason to exist, my gang to protect. The villains of this story too- my hatred for them was palpable, but learning of their pasts- in some cases- made me feel things I wasn’t expecting, sorrow for them, sadness for the lives and horrors experienced that molded them into who they are.
It’s going to take me a while to shake these feelings, but I’m so glad I got to experience their relationship, and the unbreakable love and friendship. Through all the terribleness of the past experiences, and the struggles to survive in the cruel and corrupt world, they still found their soulmate, they were no longer alone, they found their family, and they had found their home. I will never forget Eiji and Ash Lynxes love for each other, and the many other characters who were so masterfully written.
I am going to read the manga, eventually, because I need to experience this story again in its original form. I can’t yet though, not while I’m still licking my wounds. Honestly I’m not sure when I’ll be ready. I am planning to read “California Monogatari” and “Asha” by Yoshida as well
