Suspension vs firing
My mother works at Walmart, and I’m just curious what the policy is for suspending someone vs firing them. My mom has started to get very annoying with the person that’s suppose to be running electronics and started to try and talk to the managers to see how to get the problem solved. She recently had a meeting with the store manager where the store manager took her vest, badge, phone, and asked if she had a locker. My mom then proceeded to ask what grounds she (the store manager) had to fire her in which the manager brought up attendance. My mom has an accommodation through Sedgwick which allows her to have off so many days a month due to medical reasons which my mom doesn’t hit the limit. Other than that she has no points.
My mom then proceeded to hand over everything the manager asked for and went home. She then called the hr persons boss to do an open door for all the shit the manager has done. The regional hr manager then said he was under the assumption that she was suspended for the day, not fired. I’m sorry from someone who used to work for Walmart and now an outsider looking in, being asked to turn in your vest, badge, and phone sounds like your being fired.
So my question is it normal to ask for all that stuff when your being suspended, and I know when you are coached you have to sign some papers, does it work the same way with being suspended?
