Not a single impression

I made a new account and I'm trying to compete for the keyword "paris". Everything about the profile and board is correct, same thing I do for my main account.

Thing is, on my main account, a pin will usually get 50-100 impressions within the first hour. But it's competing in a much smaller category. I've pinned 3 images for paris over the last 6 hours and I haven't gotten a single impression so far. Literally 0.

It's my first time competing in a large category. Is this normal? Is it because the account is brand new? What's going on?

Successfully restarted my trainwreck of a career. What worked for me.

Hi hi. 30+ male, worked few jobs here and there. Never stuck with anything. Reasons reasons. Basically I had no real career until recently. Money slowly becoming an issue and so I decided to get my act together.

Started applying on 5th July. Accepted an offer just now(11th July). 4 lacs CTC + incentives, massive publicly listed company with clear growth path and resume value. Here's what I did and the results.

Apna Indeed Naukri
Applied 28 17 10
Invitation to apply 5
No response 21 12 9
Rejections 3 5 1
Interviews 4
  • About me: 32, male, married. Mechanical bachelors. 4 prior jobs lasting few months each with breaks in between.
  • Objective: Get to a safe place within 5 years.
  • Portal thoughts:
    • Apna: Seems like THE PLACE to start/restart your career. It feels like LinkedIn in 2021. Employee's market. Barely saw any jobs with over 100 applicants. The job I took had just 32.
    • Indeed: Seems like the most "on my side" platform relative to competition. Problem is employer inactivity. Only 5 of the 17 applications were even viewed by the HR. 1 explicit rejection. Recorded other 4 also as rejection, because.. c'mon.
    • Naukri: Highest average quality of jobs. But high competition. Like, what the fuck is this bro? The job I took is very very similar to this one. But discoverability seems high. Definitely make a profile and check everyday for any invites.

  • Market thoughts:
    • "Career" jobs are quite rare. By that I mean jobs that require specialized skills OR are with a large, recognizable company. It's almost a luxury to know you'll be fine for the next 5-10 years if you just clock in.
    • "Immediate money" jobs are everywhere and easy to get. I see a lot of people saying they do Swiggy/Rapido for cash. Bro, stop. There are plenty of dead end jobs that offer better pay and working conditions. You can get them within a week if you spam applications.
    • Just fucking lie on your application. Seriously. If the descriptions reads like a basic entry level job but is asking for 3 years experience, just say you have 3 years experience. It's just a checkbox to them. How would they even test you? Or why would it matter? It's an entry level job. You won't need those skills.
      • 1 of my 4 interviews was thanks to doing this. And my package was increased to the maximum for the job I accepted because of this.
    • Stop thinking about yourself and think about the competition. Your resume doesn't matter. If there are 999 other people applying for the same job, there's a 99.9% chance you're not getting it. Identify the segments of the economy that no one wants to work in and find a good job within that.
      • For example, do you know how many companies use Zoho/Shopify/etc and need on-premise help for integrations and automation? Seems like an easy win if you're a developer. Your chances of being interviewed are 100 times higher when applying to these jobs.
  • What I did:
    • If you go to business subreddits, like d2c/startups/exports. It's very clear where the demand is. PvE jobs are getting crushed. PvP jobs where you have to deal with other people are eating good.
      • My notice period is 15 days. There's a clause in my offer saying if you take extra work outside, you have to inform us first... lol. Including average incentives earned, my take home is ~7-8LPA. 99% of people reading this will know the company. Expected promotion time based on glassdoor-type sites is 9-18 months.
      • All this without needing to show any experience or qualification. The catch is that it's a field sales job. I don't even need a computer.
    • I could have dusted off my LinkedIn, added some new Hubspot/Google/Meta/whatever certifications, wrote essays about corpo/startup nonsense and eventually gotten a "good" job only to constantly look over my shoulder because there are 5000 other fuckers who are ready to take my seat at any point. Or... Do the things that no one else wants to.
    • The theme of the current market is competition. Not excellence. Avoid competition and you'll be fine.
      • Obviously this only applies to people starting out.

Good luck out there. You got this.
