i became the player i hate

i wasn't like this i swear, i used to let it fly and forget about the score i used to be a hyper aggressive player in the lower levels but when i got better and learned alot of stuff i started being a coward i started to only care about not losing, pushing pushing pushing tell i get a very easy ball, it happens sometimes, but not most of the time especially against the better players i'm facing now, even my technique breaks down i start contacting the ball earlier or do a half stroke instead of commiting to a full stroke, even my serve choices, i abandonded my long serve that starts the rally i'm afraid to rally now i try to end rallies as fast as possible i pray they do a mistake soon, that was exactly the players i hated in the lower levels i want to play freely again and let it fly

Too many upsets in LJUBLJANA

LeBrun brothers are OUT in 32 and 16, kuo guan knocked out duda and franciska one after the other, wen ruibo also lost, LSD been on one of the coldest streaks for a former no 1 ever so that is an upset on paper but whatever, that's feels so good for me as a calderano fan because it's much easier for him now a contender title could increase his confidence and put him in a better form before the US smash

do i need to switch grips ?

i use shakehand grip, but when the ball is fast and down the crossover or even slightly to my backhand i use a movement similar to jpen drive to return the ball it's natural to me and saved me many times, idk it makes me think lately if i should try switching to jpen style, like is it worth to negate all the years of muscle memory ? i probably wouldn't do it but just thinking out lou din table tennis sub

Reverting back to old habits, when will it end ?

Under pressure for example in close games I revert back to my old bad habits, late legs, trying to end the rally as fast possible ( forcing bad shots) sometimes stiff hands alot of the time confusion and extremely bad decision making, will that even improve or I will live that all my life ? I start the games really well, aggressive but composed, good decision making but I mentally ( sometimes also physically ) collapse during very close games

xiom omega 7 asia vs omega 7 pro vs omega 5 asia, what's better ?

what's better on timo boll zlc, not for me it's for my coach i want to buy him sth, he loves harder sponges and fast and spinny rubbers so what do you think performs better ? his technique and control are amazing he's a former national and contintental champion btw so you don't have to worry in that regard he is older now so he wants something really fast to compensate and he loves harder sponges ? and if omega 7 asia isn't available what's better between omega 7 pro and omega 5 asia ? other suggestions are welcom but in the same price range

my experience with double fish volant phoenix 1

I'm a fairly intermediate player, so I’ll do my best describing my experience.

I recently got my hands on two Double Fish rubbers. What’s consistent between both is that they’re medium tacky with a medium throw angle. They grip the ball well for this kind of Chinese rubber, and both are 2.1 mm thick. I got them locally at the club you know one of the coaches had two new rubbers and wanted me to try them. I liked them, then ended up using them for about a month, so I don’t have any formal data, just personal experience.

Starting with the purple sponge: I feel like it’s softer, more springy, and has a decent catapult effect —weaker than something like Xiom Vega Pro, for example (I know they’re different kinds of rubbers, but just for good measure ). It works well on the backhand. Pushing is amazing, serving feels very controllable while still producing good spin, and lifting backspin is relatively easy with a lower arc. Countering can be a bit tricky, though. The sweet spot also feels somewhat unforgiving, especially when looping on the upper third of the racket; the looping can become inconsistent. That might honestly be more of a technique issue on my side, but I didn’t really face that problem with Xiom Vega Pro. Still, once everything clicks, the ball quality is nothing short of superb.

As for the blue sponge version on my forehand ( and I’m a pretty FH centric player) it’s a really good forehand rubber. It does everything you expect it to do and even more. It’s very fast, especially on my blade, yet still controllable. The loaded topspin is extremely lethal, the arc is excellent, and the kick after the bounce is deceptive, especially on topspin smashes. Serves are really good, and receiving and pushing are solid as well but Sometimes there’s a slightly weird bounce but again that could just be a technique issue on my end Still, it’s worth noting.

did i lose the ability to smash the ball ??????

idk what's happening, i was doing a normal drill to warm up the forehand i counter a long pure side-spin serve to the end of the table then i 1-spin it ( i guess the euros call it looping ) back if low long spinny return 2-push if short 3-smash it if high. the problem is i suddenely lost the ability to smash the ball i can't believe it i had my doubt because the past 4 days all my smashes have been either long or into the net with few exceptions i was in denial untill that. me and my coach were confused, he corrected the obvious like better timing and less shoulder rotation and more arm but idk i just kinda don't know how to smash anymore is it like a mini yips ? did anyone encounter that with other skills ? what should i do ? i think its mental thing because on video ( we had to film what's going ) i sometimes switch up to spinning ( looping ) motion mid smash so it goes weird + all the other mistakes i mentioned before, i used to be able to smash well matter of fact that was my play-style forcing a high return to smash

stiffness when pushing

I'm kinda fluid but when it comes to pushing I become a little bit stiffer not to the point I can't push I do push and sometimes very well but I can't help but to feel much stiffer than my coach for example and I don't feel like I'm improving in that regard either, does it improve with more time ( been playing for a while ) or is there a trick

The change i would do to the broadcasting if i was the president of ittf for a day

I would show the players equipement before match, i'm interested in many players setups sometimes the commentator says what they are using but most of the time not

as you can see i have two ESN style rubbers the telson is completely non tacky while the vega pro is very slightly tacky i used to clean them with water but i saw in a recent tournament some guy cleaning his rubber after every game with a cleaner and a weird looking sponge i've heard about them before i asked my coach he said " ugh a scam, only the plastic sheet and the case are what you need " but idk am i missing out on sth ? like i want the vega pro to last as long as possible

i used to train privately, play in competetions or in the street so i haven't played alot of complete begginner untill lately when i entered uni and went to play in the uni's place, almost all beginners i meet say the backhand is more natural for them and can't do a forehand swing. they do it very awkwardly stiffness aside the movement itself feels like a swimming freestyle stroke, their hand is so horizontal it dives so much + their wrist moves so much too while the opposite happens in BH where theirwrist barely moves, i didn't know that was common because i'm the COMPLETE opposite most of my early sessions were BH drills because i naturally got the FH like to this day i trust my FH much more than my BH in tense situations

i had a coaching session today and the coach told me that i should loop either FH or BH with the upper 1/3 i used to do it using the upper 2/3, i knew from before that i should avoid using the lower third and try to hit the ball more with center of my racket but his teaching today throw me off a bit because he was strict in applying it every ball i didn't hit using the upper third of my racket he would make this expression " 😞 " then smack the ball at my head or body, do you people here think that's the right advice and i should focus on that more and more going forward
