My first and last MG ever: Why my trust in MG BeLux is completely shattered

Hi everyone,

I just need to vent about my recent experiences with my new MG ZS Hybrid+ (2026 model year). While the car itself has potential, the service and administrative chaos from MG BeLux and the dealerships have been the final straw.

This is my first, but guaranteed also my very last MG.

The problem in a nutshell:

My car (produced in June 2025) suffers from the very obvious and well-known over-revving issue. As soon as you hit a slight incline on the highway, the petrol engine hysterically revs up to 5500 to 6000 RPM without actually accelerating. The car roars as if it’s about to explode.

As it turns out, an official software update for the hybrid system was released some time ago, specifically to fix this behavior in this early production run.

Other owners have been completely sorted out by this update.

The administrative brick wall:

My car happens to be an import vehicle, but still EU. When I recently visited an official Belgian dealer for a check-up and to get this update flashed, the diagnostics computer simply stated: "No updates available".

What followed is a complete pass-the-buck story:

MG BeLux (via Facebook/Email) coldly claims that the required software "is already applied to the vehicle" (even though my system info literally reads June 2025 and the engine is screaming its lungs out). They hide behind the fact that there are "no fault codes" (makes sense—it's a software calibration issue, not a broken part).

The dealer purely looks at what the central server releases live for my specific VIN. Because MG fails to correctly update the database for this import car for the Belgian market, the technician sees absolutely nothing on his screen. In the end, they admitted they didn’t know either and asked if I could provide the VIN of another owner so they could manually compare the software packages.

Enough is enough...

In the meantime, I had to drive 1,400 kilometers to my holiday destination in Croatia with this screaming engine. It is simply irresponsible how a manufacturer ignores a known software issue and leaves the customer stranded, purely due to an administrative blind spot in their servers.

You buy a new car for peace of mind, but instead, you get a load of frustration and powerlessness in return.

My trust in MG is permanently shattered. I will drive this car for now with great reluctance, but as soon as I can, it is getting sold.

To anyone considering an MG: the hardware is okay for the price, but pray you never need software support or service from the importer. You are completely on your own.

MG Europe refusing manufacturer warranty on parallel import (ZS Hybrid+ Over-revving issue) – Anyone else?

Hi everyone,

I'm facing a ridiculous administrative wall with MG Motor Europe / MG Belux, and I’m wondering if anyone else with a parallel imported MG within the EU has experienced this.

I recently bought a brand-new 2026 MG ZS Hybrid+. The car has the well-known "over-revving" transmission issue on the highway, for which MG has rolled out an official software update.

When I went to an official dealer, they hooked it up and could see the car in the European system, but refused to flash the update because the car was imported from another EU country (parallel import) and "wasn't in the local Belgian database". Even worse, the MG Belux customer service explicitly messaged me stating that because it's a parallel import, I am not covered by the 7-year MG manufacturer warranty and should just go back to my independent reseller.

This is a clear violation of the EU Block Exemption Regulation and the pan-European 7-year warranty terms. The warranty is tied to the VIN, not the importer.

I have already escalated the case to MG Motor Europe headquarters in Amsterdam, but the radio silence is deafening. I'm supposed to leave for a family holiday at the end of the month with a car that currently feels unsafe on the highway.

Has anyone successfully forced a local MG importer to register a parallel EU import in their local system?

Did you manage to get warranty work/software updates done on a cross-border EU purchase?

Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated!
