JD Gonzalez for Mayor

First thing I notice on his campaign photo is a $20,000 watch being shown off on his wrist. Is this what we're doing now?

Laredo Art/Artist Scene Discussion

Was there ever a time in this city when it didn't seem like all the "art" or art adjacent events/themes were about "La Frontera" "The Border" "The River" "Mi Cultura", etc?

I honestly find it very boring and played out. Yes, we get it, we all live here. We're all from here. I don't find it interesting to see the 1000th art piece or event that was inspired by "my Hispanic heritage" "my life in the border" I guess that stuff works wonders further up north with white people that want to feel like they care and feel inclusive. But seeing a photo/painting of a humble brown person working or your take on La Virgen de Guadalupe, and how special/unique it is being from the border isn't groundbreaking or inspiring to me. It's been done. A lot.

Don't even get me started on the music. Did something happen during COVID that made young people form bands that sound like that early 2000s dad rock music for 50 year olds? Where's the fun or interesting stuff?
