Unsuccessful CPU upgrade- thoughts?
Hello everyone,
I am using a now pretty archaic HP Elitebook 8470p. Despite its age, it's running very smoothly after RAM upgrades (to 16gb) and and a new SSD in the last year. I dual boot windows and Linux but generally use Linux Mint on a day to day basis.
Today, I thought I'd attempt a final upgrade: replacing the current dual core CPU to a quad core. Specifically, I currently have an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3320M CPU @ 2.60GHz. The new CPU I'm trying to install is an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3632QM CPU @ 2.20GHz.
Everything went fine, physically, with the install but when I tried to boot (in either Windows or Linux) it just started hanging and didn't load. I checked system information and it recognised the new CPU so I'm just wondering if it's a BIOS issue? My current BIOS is woefully old (release date of 2013).
Failing that, I'm wondering if the CPU is just faulty?
Any thoughts?
