Impulse control
This might be a long shot. What are people doing that actually works to build impulse control enough to have your houla off-leash?
My boy has just turned 1 (recently desexed) Houla X amstaff.
Instead of bolting off after a scent, animal or running up on a dog/child he's excited to meet I've managed to get him to sit. Depending on the distance I can get him to keep walking but getting his attention away from whatever he's focused on is like talking to a brick wall for the most part. I reward him when he looks away/back at me or keeps walking but this doesn't seem to be doing much. He either sits there staring like a concrete block until whatever it is moves on or if he keeps walking with me he nearly breaks his neck to look at the thing.
The goal is to eventually get him to the point he can go to the off-leash beaches but at the moment not possible.
I don't want him running up on anyone (particularly children) or running off into the bush after wildlife
