Jason Arday’s memoir is mawkish, self-aggrandising and hard to believe

B&R guest and friend of the pod Sarah Ditum reviews Arday's book.

>When a journalist from the Times Higher Education Supplement began investigating the plagiarism claims last year, Arday reported him to the police. The police told the journalist the case was closed, but that he should refrain from contacting Arday because it was affecting Arday’s mental health.
Maybe I should turn myself in to the nearest cop shop now, because this review is not going to improve Arday’s mood. Great and Unfortunate Things is mawkish, self-aggrandising and hard to believe. Extraordinary claims are made with no supporting evidence. Arday’s story — regardless of its authenticity — feels precision-tooled to flatter the biases of the sappiest white liberals.

The Supreme Court’s Utterly Mainstream Ruling on Women’s Sports - Helen Lewis

Friend of the pod, Helen Lewis, in The Atlantic, on yesterday's ruling.

>...the left has become trapped in the position that sports inclusion is at once so existential that it’s worth taking to the Supreme Court, but also a “non-issue” affecting only a handful of students, whose opponents must be therefore motivated by spite. As the center-left commentator Matthew Yglesias puts it, “The conventional wisdom in Dem politics is that the sports issue is simultaneously trivial and also so important that you can’t compromise with public opinion on it.”

Men and Women Should Be Optimists About Love, Not Heteropessimists - NY Times

This is the article Katie and Phoebe were discussing for a chunk of the recent episode. Figured it's worth a post for people to discuss.

ETA: Not sure why the headline auto-populated with that. The actual article headline is, "There’s Nothing Wrong With Wanting Men".

Some follow-up on the non-existent residential school graves in Canada that was covered in numerous BARPod episodes.

>One might also think that the people who’d spread this misinformation would now be humbled, abashed, and perhaps even contrite. If so, one would be wrong. While the CBC belatedly admitted that no “unmarked graves” have been found in Kamloops, most media outlets and politicians have simply gone silent on the issue altogether, hoping that history will forget their role in signal-boosting fake news.
