please help

Got step 2 back and the score was 221. US MD student with sights set on FM. It seems like places like Texas STAR are reporting averages much higher. I am feeling like I will have no options anymore and should just take whatever I get. I do have my heart set for a few programs and I want to go where I want to go, but I am worried they won’t even interview me. If you have any advice on what to do please let me know. For reference, I have no board failures and have never failed a shelf exam, have extracurriculars, and some research + pubs. Anything would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

sos pls help

Hi everyone,

I wanted to make this post because I needed some advice on Step 2. I'm currently scheduled to take it on July 31st and the form I took yesterday was a 216. I still have a 5 forms left and am hopeful to consistently pass those before I sit for Step 2. I am just nervous because I feel like I have the mindset of passing/doing the best I can on Step 2 to match FM. I want to specifically do FM-OB and am looking into programs with those tracks. I saw on Texas STAR that the average for a lot of schools is a 240... so that makes me nervous too.

Also, I start my family medicine AI on August 3rd and I really do not want to delay my test and try to study during that. Please send prayers!!! & advice LOL

Rockford, Illinois STRETCH-OB Program

Hi all!

I was wondering if anyone in this community has done the STRETCH-OB program in Rockford, Illinois and would be able to give their experience/advice for applications! It is currently my top choice program & would love to learn more about what I can do to make myself stand out!

Likewise, if you have similar programs with OB tracks who train in surgical OB, preferably in the Midwest, Carolinas, or Florida — I’d love to know about those!

Thank you all for your help & responses (especially on my last post regarding FM-OB!) ❤️❤️

FM-OB, HELP!

FM-OB, HELP!

Hi everyone! I’m an MS3 that’s strongly interested in FM-OB and has been since the beginning of medical school really. The only thing is that I don’t want to be limited to rural locations only. Also, I want OB to still be a good chunk of my practice — which I hope is something achievable in FM-OB. Additionally, I’ve met some OBGYNs on rotations who were not supportive of FM-OB with making comments such as “I don’t believe FM-OBs are properly trained / I don’t know why you’d ever want to do FM-OB”

Is that the general consensus? Because I worry about being disregarded as an FM-OB or not having the cohesive support from OBGYNs in practice/ backup for the OR if needed.

Also, what are the stats I need for step 2 to match into a residency program that has heavy OB built into their program? For example, I know some residency programs have OB tracks that you can apply to through FM but only take up to two spots for that track! Additionally, what are some things to mention on my application that would make me stand out for these selective spots? Thank you!

Sorry, this is SO much rambling and info but I’d love all the help & insight I can get!

Thank you again to everyone who responds and sheds some light on this for me! 🩷

Signed, a stressed M3 & incoming M4 who is applying in September!!!!
