HDMI and HDR

I am new to linux, so I might just be missing something but I just can't get HDR to work for me over HDMI 2.1 on bazzite.

I am trying to create a living room gaming set up whereby a 9070xt (Ryzen 7 7700x) is connected via a hdmi 2.1 cable to my LG TV (which runs 4k/120 HDR on windows). The general idea was to experience gaming on linux while also using this second system to learn more broadly how to use linux on a daily basis. With the goal of eventually migrating my main pc to linux.

I understand from reading other posts on here and looking around the web that hdmi 2.1 might not fully compatible with bazzite.

I have tried solutions like custom steam launch options, such as "gamescope --hdr-enabled" but I just haven't been able to get HDR to work in any games yet. And the desktop environment is completely washed out when HDR is switched on at 4k/120. Steam big picture vs regular does not seem to make a difference either.

What I have noticed is that I can reduce the resolution in bazzite system settings to 1440p and HDR works better and is registered as an option in some games. My conclusion being that the hdmi bandwidth is limited for some reason on bazzite? (4k/60hz is also fine). I have no doubt that the full colour gamut is not being utilised in either of these workarounds.

As well as my newness to linux another reason I am questioning whether I am just missing something is that in the recent media coverage about bazzite (linux in general) being a good option for couch gaming, lack of HDR support on Tv's has not been mentioned.

Anyway, my questions would be, if anyone is able to help me out:

Is there a solution to getting HDR to work at 4k/120 over hdmi 2.1 on bazzite?

Is there another distro I can try or is this a linux wide issue?

(PS, I have seen the DP to HDMI adaptor solution but I would rather just get my system working)

And thanks in advance to anyone giving up time to help me out here.
