53 Street (R) Station ESI Upgrade Review

This is 53rd Street on the 4th Ave Line at Brooklyn, NYC. It is the first station on the NYC Subway that is fully renovated with enhanced upgrades and technology. This was renovated from March 2017 to September 2017. It features 5 entrances with 2 on each side, two of them has newer entryways without canopies, but two of them has canopy entryways at 53rd, also one of them is at 52nd for a extended stairways to the fare gates and platforms on the Bay Ridge 95th side. The entryways have newer black color with wired covered railings, lighted railings, blue walls on the side, gray walls with extra signage attached when connecting to the ceiling and overhead lights, and a signage with countdown clock on the back, and the front view has wider signage. Also has Totem Informations with neighborhood maps and infos. The canopy entrances has improved black holder poles with a canopy that has overhead and side lighting and a R logo to prevent it from rain and snow. and features inside are the mezzanine with information screens and maps, wayfinding signages, Kiosks, usb charging and customer service deck, Omni Machines, fare gates including emergency exits with glass barriers to prevent fare evasion, mezzanine countdown clock, new enhanced lighting, repainted and covered ceiling tiles, and security cameras. These stairways to both sides of the platforms have artwork, which is called, Untitled by Mickalene Thomas, which has mosaic styled artworks. The stairs leading to platforms with wired covered railings and improved ada staircases, the platforms on both sides, the Bay Ridge 95th and Manhattan Queens bound platforms have improved and replacement platforms with tactile warning strips, repainted white walls, repainted blue walls on sides attached are the station signage, and LED Maps to see you are here at this station, wooden Leaning bars, Wooden benches with black steel holders for USB charging, trash bins, Artwork, enhanced lighting, vents, covered and improved ceilings, and repainted black cylindrical and square Columns, information screens advisory dashboards and maps with wayfinding improvements and USB charging, cellular services, help points, and more signages when trains run all tones or late nights, and exit back to the staircases. Also has new speakers attached and countdown clocks are also there too. They have posters with poems and information stories about art as well. However, this station was not accessible, but in the future plan, this was selected to have elevators for accessibility in the 2025-2029 capital program.
