What happened to Gurika? A 16-year-old disappeared in Georgia in 2014, and the case still has no answers.
Meet Gurika Dadianidze. His mother has been searching for him for 12 years.
In June 2014, during the Lomisa/Lomisoba religious festival in Georgia, 16 teenagers and one adult went on an excursion. According to testimony, they hired a minibus/taxi and arrived in Kvemo Mleta at around 10 PM.
They went up to the shrine, but according to the accounts, they did not stay for the religious ceremony and turned back about 20 minutes later.
On the way down, Gurika reportedly sat down on a rock. When the others went to check on him shortly afterward, he was gone.
Over the past 12 years, numerous theories have emerged. One of the main theories was that Gurika had been caught in a landslide. However, according to information that later emerged, there was no landslide in that area in 2014.
Some witnesses have also claimed that Gurika may still be alive — with theories that he could be in a monastery or that he may have crossed into an occupied territory. However, the testimonies do not appear to be consistent with one another.
We also found a video uploaded in 2014 in which a voice that is allegedly Gurika’s can be heard. The video appears to have been recorded during the festival. However, according to witness testimony, the group went up to the shrine at night, which raises further questions about the timeline.
Only two photographs from the excursion appear to have survived. The testimonies refer to the existence of other photographs, but none of them have been found.
From 2014 to 2017, the case was reportedly subject to search efforts and investigative work, while a formal investigation was opened in 2017.
There is also another disturbing detail: the investigator who was involved in the case between 2014 and 2017 reportedly denies having been involved, and former colleagues also say they have no recollection of this person working there.
All witnesses have denied that any conflict or disagreement occurred at the location.
For 12 years, Gurika’s mother has been told — or has been led to believe — that her son may still be alive and that one day he will come home.
