MDF vs. PVC for an A320 pedestal base – Is the extra ~9.5 kg weight worth it for a desktop setup?

Saw Rowsfire release this new A320 desktop pedestal base designed to lock their modules together. It looks like they’re offering two material options: MDF Wood (~14.5 kg) and PVC Plastic (~5 kg).

Got me thinking about the trade-offs for a desktop cockpit:

PVC Plastic ($179.99): Light (~5 kg) and easy to move around if you share your desk, but I wonder if it feels a bit hollow during heavy throttle use.

MDF Wood ($249.99): Much heavier (~14.5 kg) and rigid with a solid, heavy-duty feel, but definitely adds bulk.

For those who built or bought a desktop pedestal, which material did you go with? Is the extra rigidity and weight of MDF worth the price and effort to move?

This hobby is dangerously expensive and my bank account is crying. 😭✈️

Went over to a friend’s house to check out his full-scale cockpit build.

He used a ton of Rowsfire hardware panels for the overhead and center console. I was pretty blown away by the build quality—the switch feedback legit feels like a professional CAE simulator, not a toy.

Once you experience a setup like this, going back to clicking buttons with a mouse feels like a punishment. Send help (or extra cash).

Nothing beats the ambient glow of an Airbus overhead panel in a dark room. ✈️✨

Spent the evening tuning the backlighting for some late-night flights. There’s just something ridiculously satisfying about dimming the room lights and turning that INTEG LT knob to BRT.

What’s your go-to cockpit lighting setup when flying at night?

Nothing beats the rush of heavies coming in low. My ultimate therapy.

Spent a few hours by the runway threshold today just watching these heavies rotate. Nothing clears the mind like a 787 GE90 or A321 roaring right over your head.

Shot this while taking a break from my usual flight sim / home cockpit setup. Spotting location and details in the comments!

Finally moved away from mouse-clicking the B737 overhead.. 😝

Really impressed with the tactile feel and lighting on the B107 B737 overhead, so I decided to make a dedicated video for it.

Tried to highlight the real-time switch response and backlighting in the clip.

Curious to hear what you guys think of the setup and lighting balance!😎
