Why are Chase-drawn checks used in new account fraud?

I work for a super-regional bank. Twice this year, I've seen this pattern:

  1. Customer opens a new bank accout

  2. 1-2 weeks later they deposit money

  3. On the day of step 2, they try to deposit a Chase-drawn check, but the check is either stolen or forged

I have not seen this with other bank-drawn checks, so why are Chase-drawn checks used the most in new account fraud?

BetMGM bankruns?

This past week, there was a teller at a branch in my area that said they received a couple of customers who were trying to withdraw their full bank accounts 1-2 days after BetMGM posted multiple direct deposits into their accounts. Then one arrived in my branch. We wound up turning down their withdrawal request in the event that BetMGM would take the money back. Have any of you run into that in the past week?
