So I'm watching Time Ghost's Korean War week by week with Indy Neidell on YouTube, and I wanted to ask something.

By spring 1952, the frontlines were more or less frozen in place and armistice talks were proceeding - not proceeding well for the UN, but they were going. All while this was going on, Eisenhower decided he wants to run for president, and requested that he be relieved from the head of Allied occupation forces in Europe by Truman. Truman allowed this, and decided to appoint Matthew Ridgeway to this position.

My question is, why him? He was - at least it seems to me - a good commander in Korea, he managed to stabilise the lines, and he was much more reasonable and obedient than MacArthur. I can't help but be surprised by the choice the relieve him when there probably were other, high level military officers to send to Europe, but only Ridgeway has been fighting in Korea for the past year.
