Meet Verso.

Hey everyone.

After a couple of months of work, I'm happy to show my side project - Verso, which is a replacement for LuCI. I've been daily driving OpenWrt ever since we released our router, but I was super unhappy with LuCI and decided to do something about it, and Verso was conceived.

With how short everyone's attention span is these days, I'll just link to the release documentation, and then ask for help.

You see, the problem I have is a lack of various arm64 devices I could test it on, so here's where I turn to this community: if you have an arm64-based device that has at least half a gig or RAM and at least 128MB of flash storage, then I'd appreciate if you gave it a try and report any issues you might encounter (installation in the release notes above).

It works automatically with LuCI, it just takes a different port (8443), so it can easily run along side it.

And full disclosure - Verso was, in large part, written by Claude Code, but under my guidance and supervision, architecture and design are all mine, Claude just did the code-writing.

PS: screenshots are from my home router, live data.

Bungie, fix the damn ladders.

Getting stuck on them all the time got really annoying really fast. Missed exfils because of them, got downed when trying to disengage.

Also, holding shift while going down for sliding works in every other game with similar mechanics, why not in Marathon?

Tarkov vet here, 3k hours. Relevant, because I'm going to make several comparisons.

So, here's the thing, I'm a hoarder. A passionate one. If my Tarkov crew wasn't online, then I'd run scavs, sometimes for hours on end, just because I like the zero to hero play style. I'd load in with almost nothing, then try to find some gear and hunt the remaining PMCs with. I'd die often, but when I'd win a fight, I'd go out rich. And this high is what I absolutely loved.

Marathon gives me the exact same high, and I love it just as well. But what it doesn't give me is the vault space to achieve that high more often. Tarkov's inventory is absolutely huge (once you max your hideout, that is, and no longer need the space for random stuff). I'd be able to store, say, at least 20 fights worth of full gear, guns, rigs, armor, ammo, the whole kit.

In Marathon, I can barely have around 5 kits worth of gear, and if lose 5 runs in a row (which in Cryo can happen in ~2 hours), I'm down to pretty much nothing. Now this wouldn't be an issue, but Marathon doesn't allow me to just buy the best gear off factions, even when they are fully maxed out.

In Tarkov, if I put the grind in and make a lot of money, I can buy the 95% of the best stuff whenever. It's not cheap, but I'm being rewarded for the grind, which I feel I'm not in Marathon. I have 2+ million credits and a Profiteer title and yet can't assemble a good purple Bully. I should be able to. 20 times over, if I can afford it, make it expensive, I don't care, I'm willing to grind for the credits.

Furthermore, Tarkov's inventory is nestable, so I can take a backpack that takes 8 slots and put 40 slots of stuff in. Or buy an ammo/weapons case and get an even bigger boost to my storage space.

But here's the kicker, the more gear I have, the more likely I am to bring my best stuff in because I can literally die all evening and still have some gear I can go in with the next day. This means that players that have less time than me to play will be able to extract better stuff when they kill me and in turn have more better gear and then they will also be more likely to bring better stuff in. It's a positive feedback loop, all around (get it? :)

I believe that these two limitations (factions not selling stuff I want and vault space being too small) make Marathon less casual than Tarkov, not more. Because smaller vault space means bigger gear fear.

Bungie. I like loot. Please, let me keep more of it.

(I should also note this is not an argument against wipes. Wipes make things fresh and fun!)
