Forged steel orca

Hand forged steel orca whales from angle iron. As far as I can see, this idea is original to me. Forging an orca out of a single piece of angle iron. Overall I’m getting happier with the shape but getting the forging process down is still tricky. These will part of a special piece I’m building for the #sookefallfair Hope you like them! #blacksmith #blacksmithing #orca #killerwhale

Forging a ball stake

Needed a ball and a mushroom stake to help shape my forged orcas. So forged one. Love being a blacksmith and being able to make my own tools! #blacksmithing #blacksmith #MetalArt

Forged wolf head bottle opener

As a blacksmith, carving animal heads out of steel is one of the most rewarding and fun things I do in the forge. This wolf head bottle opener started out as an off cut. A piece of steel I cut off of another project that wasn’t working. I remember looking at the “scrap” and thinking “that looks like an animal head!”. So I saved that piece of scrap for over a year! Feels good to use fire, a hammer and my minds eye to transform it into something special. #blacksmith #blacksmithing #metalart #forging

Need a tool, make a tool

Always struggle getting these hair pins to a consistent bend. Finally made a jig to help with that. Took a 8” piece of pipe, sliced it in half, than sliced a section out of one to make a hardy shank followed by slicing the other almost in half in two areas. Bent the attached section back, rolled it into a “handle” and formed it to match the fuller on the anvil. Works pretty well.
PS I don’t have a welder before you comment it would have been easier to weld that… 😜

Hand forged carving sized splitting froe

Forged a splitting froe for a client. First time blacksmithing a froe or something with a rolled eye. Things I would do differently next time: make the eye bigger so I don’t have to cut so much off my hickory staves! #blacksmith #handforged #blacksmithing

Forged a bbq flipper out of an old railroad spike.

Not very original I know. People do like to buy stuff forged out of railroad spikes. If you are a new blacksmith you might pay attention to the part where I’m drawing out the spike Ofer the edge of the anvil. It’s a very aggressive way to draw out quickly.

Forging an axe pendant (somewhat poorly)

Not terribly happy with these but also not terribly unhappy with them. First try so learning how to improve them.

Dragon head magic wand.

Blacksmith forging a dragon head on a steel magic wand. Vanessa found this discarded piece of steel while trimming the end of the driveway so I decided to save this thrown away steel into a special magic wand for my lovely green witch wife. Hope you enjoy! #blacksmith #witchythings

Forged raven head cloak pin

Blacksmith forging a re-enactor renaissance faire Raven headed cloak pin. These have many names: penannular brooch, kilt pin, blanket pin etc but they all take the same basic shape. Thought I’d try and forge one with Raven head finials giving it a sort of Viking-esque sort of feel. Hope you enjoy the video! #blacksmith #blacksmithing #renfair #reenactment

Twisted rebar divination dowsing pendulum candle scribe

Blacksmith forging a divination dowsing pendulum combined with a candle scribe. These are forged out of steel rebar that has been twisted. Usually twisting a round bar doesn’t result in anything but twisting rebar creates really interesting patterns in the steel. #blacksmith #blacksmithing #divination #dowsing

Forged tear drop punch

Forging a tear drop punch. These punches get used for forging all sorts of decorative shapes. The first plan I have for the tear drop punch is forging a flower shaped finial.
