Atl, Ga resident wants to do student teaching in Vancouver, WA
One of my first times posting on Reddit, I’m planning on enrolling into WGU’s secondary education program with a focus in earth science. I’m currently not enrolled as I’m in the process of studying for CLEP exams to transfer some credits over to WGU. Currently I only have a GED, I’m 25 soon to be 26, I’ve been living in Atlanta, Ga for 21 years now, I have no kids and a girlfriend of 3 years who also wants to move to the PNW. I want to go through the WGU program while living in Georgia until it’s time to do the student teaching (I’m estimating 2.5-3 years maybe less) then moving to Vancouver, Washington to complete the rest of my degree in hopes of securing a job. In November my car will be paid for and I can start putting that $500 a month towards a moving fund which I’m estimating would be about 15k when I’m finally ready to move to Washington for my student teaching. Am I being naive? Is this unrealistic? I genuinely do want to be a HS earth science teacher in Va, Washington and hopefully even coach a extracurricular activities such as track and field, xc, or better yet basketball but I’m worried if I get licensed in Georgia it’ll be a pain to get a job in Washington and I’ll end up getting myself stuck here. Also would it make it even more difficult if I were to use the teach grant to pay for the degree and had to teach at a high needs school for 4 years? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
