I need to make $15k before the end of the year. What would you focus on?

I'm setting myself a goal of making $15k before the end of the year.

Now comes the interesting part, figuring out how to actually get there.

If you were in my position, what would you focus on? I'm interested in hearing practical approaches that have actually worked for people, whether that's freelancing, business, SaaS, sales, or something else.

Not looking for get-rich-quick ideas, just trying to figure out where I should put my effort for the next few months.

I'm starting to think local isn't always the best first market for SaaS

The more I learn about SaaS businesses, the more I question whether targeting the Kenyan market first is always the right move. The internet removes a lot of geographical boundaries, which means your potential customers don't have to live where you do.

That's not to say there aren't real problems worth solving in Kenya. There absolutely are.

But factors like purchasing power, payment habits, and market size can make growth more challenging compared to products aimed at a global audience. The challenge, of course, is distribution. Building the product is one thing, getting people outside Kenya to discover it and trust it is another.

Take a simple example. If I built a SaaS that attracted 600 active customers paying $29 per month, that's about $17,400 in monthly recurring revenue. Reaching 600 paying customers is difficult anywhere, but it feels more achievable when your potential market is global rather than limited to one country.

That's why I'm starting to think distribution might be the real skill. Building the product is only half the battle. Figuring out how to consistently reach people around the world who have the problem you're solving is what separates a hobby project from a business.

For those building SaaS products, are you targeting local users, an international audience, or both? What influenced that decision, and if you're targeting an international audience, how are you approaching distribution?

Are websites becoming an afterthought for Kenyan SMEs?

One thing I've noticed while building websites for Kenyan SMEs is that many businesses invest heavily in branding, packaging, and social media, but their website often becomes the forgotten part of the business.

I find that interesting because a website is often the first place someone goes after discovering a business. Before making a call, sending a WhatsApp message, or visiting in person, people want to know whether the business feels trustworthy.

Of course, every business is different, and social media can be enough for some.

I'm curious to hear from founders and business owners.

How important has your website been to your business? Has it generated customers, or has social media been enough? If you haven't invested much in it, what's been the biggest reason?

Developers, which VPS provider has been the most reliable for you?

Hi Techies

I've reached the point where I have enough personal projects that I want to stop relying on free hosting and move everything to a VPS.

Most of what I build is full stack web apps, typically with PostgreSQL, Docker, and a few background services. Reliability is more important to me than having the absolute cheapest option.

For those of you self hosting your projects, what VPS provider are you using, and how has your experience been?

I'm considering options like Hetzner, DigitalOcean, Vultr, and Linode, but I'm open to others if you've had a good experience.

I'd especially love to hear about uptime, support, pricing, and whether you'd choose the same provider again.

Freelancers and agency owners, how do you consistently get clients?

I run a small web development agency, and so far I've landed a few clients through X. While it's been a good source of work, I don't want to rely on a single channel.

For those of you freelancing or running agencies in Kenya:

  • Where do most of your clients come from?
  • Do you use referrals, cold outreach, LinkedIn, paid ads, Upwork, networking, or something else?
  • What has given you the best ROI?

I'd love to hear what's worked for you and what you'd avoid.
