Where to find legitimate clients as an entry-level VA/Freelancer?

I've been applying for months now, and honestly, it's been more difficult than I expected. I've had a few interviews and even some clients who seemed interested, but after replying, they just disappear without letting me know if I got the job or not. A simple rejection would honestly be better than being left wondering. I've also run into quite a few scammers, which makes the whole process even more frustrating. Then there are applications that never get any response at all. For those of you who are already working with clients, where did you find your first legitimate client? What platforms or methods actually worked for you? Any advice would be appreciated. I'm starting to feel discouraged, but I don't want to give up.
