Is this telogen effluvium, or something else ?

I've noticed my sides are starting to get thinner. Thinking it could be telogen effluvium, but I'm not sure. My hair doesnt shed in huge clumps though, only in strands kinda all over, a bit in the back too. However my hair is thick and normal in the back. 17M

1 Month on Accutane: My Experience So Far

I am approaching my one month mark on Accutane and thought I would write this for my own future benefit, to have something to look back on and maybe even help others who are beginning their journey and are curious for what to expect. Right now im on 30mg a day at 6'2 and 165 pounds. My dermatologist is gonna keep me on the 30mg dose for at least one more month, and then we'll decide if we wanna increase or stick to a longer, lower dosage method.

I'd say so far the main difference I have noticed is my oil production is significantly lower than before. Before starting accutane, my face would get incredibly oily within just an hour of washing my face, and now my skin is much more dry. Even my ears have become less oily, which is super nice. The main downside though has been my nose and eyes are super dry now. To combat this, I have been applying aquaphor with a q tip inside my nose and regularly using lubricating eye drops, as well as bringing aquaphor with me everywhere I go because my lips chap so easily now.

The big reason why I started Accutane was mainly due to tons of stubborn closed comedones that I had all over my face, and so far the only difference I have noticed is some of them have come to a head. I'd be lieing if I said it hasn't bummed me out a little, but I know accutane is a marathon and not a sprint, and I just have to trust the process. Everyday when I take my accutane pill, I have it with foods high in healthy fats, along with fish oil and an antihistamine. Due to my scalp being super dry and flaky, I started using jojoba oil which has been helping immensely. I also started using hydrocolloid patches on my pimples almost every night because it gets rid of a lot of the gunk from when my comedones come to the surface.

Overall, I dont really have many bad things to say about my experience so far, although it's definitely been a tough pill to swallow at times (no pun intended) knowing sometimes things must get worse before they get better. At the same time though, im really excited for the months to come and to start seeing results, and finally love myself again.
