Last post on this dropship, I promise

Okay, so we all remember this thing.

Well, I felt that I needed to add a base to it so that I can rightly show where it sits on the map.

It doesn't fit. The model itself is okay, it's the janky landing legs that mess it up. I had to add hexes to the original template so I could actually attach it!

Anyway, this is the set of in-process pics I took. I think they are basically self-explanatory, but if there are questions ask 'em!

As always, comments, critiques, pitchforks and torches are all welcome.

Aerospace Asset Done.

Showed this guy already and I chose not to change the original paint job. I did, however, put him on the right sized base and added some sky!

Went overboard, however, with the little tufts of cotton for clouds.

What to do...

So, I found this little spaceship in my bits boxes. I will be incorporating it into my forces.

I just don't know what would be the best use of it.

I have no real desire to play any aerospace battles, but I could still use it as an aerospace fighter engaging ground targets.

On the other hand it could be a conventional aircraft.

I haven't played in-depth games this century, and so I ask the community thier thoughts.

Stand of infantry for scale...

u/Tough-Agent7028 — 9 days ago

And now for something slightly different...

Since my merc commander rides in a cyclops, I might someday be able to use the mobile command center that it can carry!

So just in case, I cobbled one together from things in my bits box!

Thoughts?

Vehicle question...

Okay, so, it really has been a minute or two since I have managed to play a decent game of BT.

I am trying to build a sizable force to allow for good choices in pick-up games. Back in the day we used to play really big games, like three players per side and each player running a full company! Remember too, this was in the early it's and there was a decided lack of units!

So, I believe in combined arms, as obviated by my posts with all the dang infantry. That being said, I need to add armored combat vehicles to my collection.

I would like, if I may ask, some recommendations on both vehicles and perhaps sources for vehicles that won't bankrupt me if I purchase them en masses.

Any assistance is most appreciated.

More Infantry

Got another couple companies of infantry in and painted up!

These guys are a little large, but that's okay. Different colored hats to differentiate

The green ones had cloaks, so did green and am styling them as rangers.

The set came with 3 guys meant for popping out of tanks. So I made them in sort of a foxhole with their buddies behind the hedge!

I have even more coming from yet another company on Etsy, so I'll see how they look once they get here on Tuesday!

Mech Designs, Pt 1.

Hey, folks.

I picked this mech up a number of years ago online. I could only get the actual model, not the files, but that was okay.

This bad boy is obviously based off of the old MAC III "Monster" from Macross/Robotech. It is painted in the colors of Team Banzai, since that it what I was originally going to paint my unit as several years ago when I wanted to get back into Battletech. Problem was I couldn't find a roster of any kind for them in any sources. I did find a mention of them in an old Alpha Strike supplement (I think) and it listed them as composed of three mech regiments and with values high enough to suggest that they were an assault unit.

Looking back on it, I am guessing that the valuation could also have been taking into account the quality of all the pilots, but that's hindsight for ya!

Anyway, I have long kept this version of the mechsheet ensconced over on Mech Factory and it is the one sheet I won't ever get rid of. I love this beast. But I know it has issues, and so I present it here for y'all to take a look at and tell me where I went wrong.

Or, conversely, to tell me I did okay! LMAO! This is the internet, who am I kidding?!?

Anyhow, as always, comments, critiques, pitchforks and torches are all welcome. Thanks.

Coinage issue...

I am trying to purchase LoTRO coins through my Steam Wallet but every time I try I get am error message telling me it didn't go through and then gives me four possible reasons it didn't.

This is several attempts over two weeks.

Anyone else having this issue?

Any clue how to fix it?

Any help is appreciated.

New Mechs

So I finished up the 8 mechs that came in the boxed set.

I also finished my first batch of infantry, with one platoon being motorized! The infantry came with VTOL I didn't ask for, so I'm thinking it was a thank you!

The Dropship is complete

Okay, I finally finished my spheroid dropship model. Took me a couple days and I didn't want to spam everyone with constant updates, so I will put all the pics I took here in more or less chronological order. If anyone has questions, ask and i will answer.

She is still a little overlarge, especially since the landing legs I cobbled together splay out the way that they do. The next one I make I will use magic marker caps since they look more structurally sound to carry that much weight.

Just finished painting it up tonight. Aside from the primer and the base color, the hull was done by sponging on the various colors and then then a little creative lining work and other colors on top, then came all the decals.

I like her, and this is definitely a good proof of concept. I have enough little spheres to make three more.

And before someone yells about the lack of proper details, I don't care. These are simply representational models. Since all sphereoids take up the same 7 hexes on the map these can represent any class of dropship that I would need for the particular scenario I am playing.

So there {/sticks out tongue]

LOL!!!

As usual, comments, critiques, pitchforks and torches are all welcome.

Dropships

So, I wanted a couple of dropships for tabletop, but I don't have a 3d printer and don't feel like paying out the booty for someone else's print job.

So, I'm gonna make them myself.

Went online and found clear plastic spheres. These will do nicely. They are a little bit larger than the website said they'd be, but I'm sure i can make them work.

I'll keep y'all in the loop as I go.

Oopsie...

Well, it's been so long since I've had a physical copy of the current rules I decided to get them.

I screwed up. I bought a box set.

Well, now I have 8 more mechs to paint....

BWHAHAHAHA!

u/Tough-Agent7028 — 28 days ago

YES! They are done!

I'll have better pics later. It's almost 0430 away it is! But I had, just HAD to finish them tonight!

Just an experiment

Okay, so after making sure that sharing mech designs was okay I will share this one.

I don't have a name for it yet, hence the Experiment designation.

It's a 95 tonner, and is probably the most expensive thing I have ever designed.

I have run it through the Mech Factory's combat trial sim several times and it seems to me to work very well.

Obvious weaknesses are the XL engine and the ammunition dependency,,, as well as the complete lack of CASE.

And sorry if the drawing is crappy. I banged that out in about an hour. It was suggested that an image works well, so I included one.

Comments and critiques, pitchforks and torches are all welcome.

Mech designs

Is it within the rules to share mech designs for constructive critique?

I've been playing BT since they changed the name from "BattleDroids", so I have made a LOT of mechs in my day... I've even seen some of my old designs seeing print when some dev or another had the same ideas I had.

Just wanted to ask before dropping a mech sheet into the pot.

Almost there...

Still working on my mercs. Been doing waterslide transfers, but I think I'm done for today.... just spilled half of my micro sol all over a couple decal sheets and destroyed them...

My Mercs

Well, been a busy painting bee. Got my heavy battalion here on the bench.

Almost done. Down to tiniest of details and cockpit canopies... oh and basing.

This is the Circle of Swords mercenary unit. They follow a modified version of the creed of the old Lorix Order. They don't put mechwarriors at the top of the list, but all warriors are of equal value.

Using arm color as a field identifier, both for the unit and for me. And yes, I like Marauders. LOL

Population issues

So one thing that has always bugged me about Battletech is the huge volume of space and the number of populated worlds (roughly 2000) and the numbers of people who live on them. I never thought it possible for that many people to exist within the time frame.

So I did a little research and a little math.

If we assume a beginning human population of roughly 10 billion within Sol System at the start it could actually work.

The first human colony was on Tau Ceti VI around 2120. There were already colonies on Luna, Mars, and soon there would be one on Venus(!)

The estimated population of the Inner Sphere in 3050 is between 3 and 6 trillion. That gives us 934 years of continued exploration and expansion. Just using the base calculations for population growth, if we assume current infant mortality rates and a modest 1% continuous growth rate, we can quite easily reach the upper end of the estimated range of 6 trillion persons. In fact, it would take only 916 years to react that population figure.

This also assumes perfect conditions; safe and healthy environment, proper medical care, no lack of food, and no massive spikes in the death rate due to outside influences... like massive wars, collapsing ecosystems, loss of institutional knowledge, and several gifts from enemies measured in the gigaton.

There were massive wars across this entire timeline of the Inner Sphere and so many planets along borders being turned into radioactive glass, not to mention the departure of the SDLF almost entire and the loss of all that genetic inheritance to the IS gene pool, and all of this would create pockets of history were there was a massive chunk of negative growth rate.

However, the estimate of the Inner Sphere's population is from 3 to 6 trillion. And so taking all of the wars and planetary polishing with high energy physics into account I can actually find the total population figures to be actually accurate. I would estimate that the total would be far closer to 3 trillion than the upper limit of 6, but that doesn't take into account any advanced medical technologies that might be extant within the setting.

Thanks for listening to my TED talk.

Model question

Okay, so I am trying to get back into BT. I originally played when the dang game came out and left as the clans arrived (the lack of BPV made those games very lopsided).

Anyway, introductions aside, I picked up a couple minis that I can't identify and could use some help. They are in the early stages of a repaint.

Anyone got a clue? Any help is appreciated.
