Settle an argument for me please

My roomate is being dumb and won’t belive goggle ai. Is it EVER correct to use “le deux est…” meaning in English “ both are, or the two are” or is it only correct to use “Les deux sont…” (excluding dates, and things like bus routes, I am only talking about two seperate people/ places/things as pairs.)

And for clarity I obviously know it’s les deux I’m just far from a native speaker.
