This is in November; are his cirri prominent enough and face squared-off enough to guarantee Rusty is male? I have a 100% female redback, and her anatomy appears to be different, so I’m guessing Rusty is 100% male.

My male red back has looked swelled up near his mouth and neck for the past week. It looks as if he has swallowed a bug and can’t fully swallow it, but I highly doubt this, since I haven’t seen him eat in about a week. I’m not too worried about the eating part, since they are very hardy and he just moved to a new enclosure, so this makes sense since salamanders are sensitive to changes in their environment and may stop eating for a while. Anyways, he opens his mouth for a split second and closes it now and then, which he doesn’t usually do. The humidity and temperature are good (75% humidity and the temperature is 68°F), so I don’t know what’s going on. Can someone please help me?
