Financial planning for fertility treatments

Hi guys, I need some help planning financially for fertility treatments.

Initially, we planned to keep aside around ₹1 lakh before meeting the fertility specialist. We thought this would cover the first few months of tests, medicines, scans, and maybe one cycle with medication + monitoring.

But after just the first consultation and initial tests, we’ve already spent around ₹30–35k on blood tests, scans, and supplements.

The doctor has currently asked us to try naturally for 2 months and then come back. She also mentioned follicular study, and while researching I’ve been reading a lot about IUI and IVF too.

I understand costs vary for everyone depending on diagnosis and treatment plan, but having a rough ballpark figure would really help me plan more realistically. I originally assumed the initial blood work and medicines would cost around ₹10–15k, but it ended up being almost double, so now I feel like I need a better understanding of the overall journey.

For context, I’m in Chennai and visiting a medium-sized fertility clinic, not a large chain hospital.

Would really appreciate hearing:
- How much you roughly spent during the early stages
- How did you plan for it? Maybe even numbers like how much an IUI cycle costs
- Any unexpected expenses you wish you planned for
- Any savings tips

Thank you!

Plus size friendly fertility doctor in Chennai

Hi guys,

I’m looking for recommendations for a fertility doctor. I’m nearing 31 and have been trying to conceive. I currently weigh close to 120 kg, though I’ve already lost a significant amount of weight and am continuing to work on it actively.

At this point, waiting until I lose all the weight before seeking treatment doesn’t feel practical or realistic. I’m hoping to find a doctor who will take a balanced approach and support fertility treatment alongside my ongoing weight-loss efforts. Please let me know if you know any doctors like this, or if you or someone you know has had a positive experience with a supportive fertility specialist.
