Since when is a drillship not a PDV?
As per my evaluator I am on a MODU so I need to complete a radar refresher and “take home” rules test. In my sea time letter I also stated that I use radar/arpa on a daily basis. Context here currently employed and sailing as 2nd mate OICNW on a drillship that is underway/making way as well as RAM. DP vessel, self propelled, radar watch. USCG COC states MODU, however self propelled with dynamic positioning. As per the rules of the road we meet every qualification of a vessel underway/making way/ RAM. I create voyage plans, transit, arrival/departure checklists, steering gear tests. Why is the NMC a joke? This would be my 4th time renewing and this year is THE ONLY year where I have had an issue.
UPDATE: after calling and sending in an explanation of what a drillship is I HAVE been approved to print. I hope no one else has to go through this stress. Thank you to everyone who reached out. Be safe out there!
