Graduating soon with no placement due to backlog — feeling stuck

Final semester CSE student here. My college life is almost ending, but I still haven’t got placed because I have a 7th sem backlog.

Right now, most companies coming to campus are for Business Development/Sales roles, and very few IT companies are allowing students with backlogs.

I’m confused about what to do now.

Should I:

  • join a sales/business development role for experience and salary first, or
  • skip it and focus completely on preparing for IT jobs off-campus after clearing my backlog?

My goal is to build a career in tech/IT, but I’m also worried about unemployment after graduation and family pressure.

Has anyone been in a similar situation?
Did starting in sales affect your IT career later?

Please give honest suggestions guys.
