Want to do what’s best for best friend

This is our wonderful 15-year-old roommate named kitty friend. She’s the best.
We’ve lived together for eight years, and have a great happy dynamic. She’s the worlds sweetest cat.

Recently we ended up with an option to adopt a stray kitten being fostered after its mom was hit by a car. It would come into our house weened and with shots. We’ve long talked about a second cat for Kitty Friend.
The reasons:

  1. KF is super affectionate and we think it would be good for her to have a friend.

  2. She’s getting older and we think a playmate might extend her life a bit.

  3. We’re expecting in about seven months and worry the extra time we’ll have to dedicate to a new born might make KF feel left out a little. We thought a friend for her might help if we’re not quite as attentive for a few months.

The concerns are these:

  1. This will stress KF.

  2. This will make KF feel like we’re replacing her.

  3. If we have a great dynamic now, we could mess it up.

  4. KF loves people and dogs. She reacts really poorly to other cats she doesn’t know and has lived half of her life on her own. We will slow expose them but there’s a chance even with that it goes poorly.

Tl:dr So we’re looking for thoughts or experienced on people who’ve perhaps been in similar situations. Our family, our vet friend have been a mixed bag on what to do.

Any advice you all have?
