26’ EH Taylor Four Grain Review

Distillery: Buffalo Trace Distillery
Type: Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Mash Bill: Corn, rye, wheat, and malted barley (“four grain”)
Proof: 100 proof (50% ABV)
Style: Limited release / allocated bourbon
MSRP: Roughly $70

Nose: Honey forward, with some caramel, vanilla, some bright cherry with some light toasted oak and touch of maple. Bright nose that has the classic BT sweet honey forward profile.

Palate: Honey sweetness from nose transfers to the palate, backs up with caramel and some soft baking spice. Some bitter oak on the back end along with some cherry peaking through adding some sweetness to the bitter finish.

Overall: This is a fine whiskey at its price tag, but do NOT overpay for this whiskey. I wouldn’t pay anymore than MSRP for this whiskey. It’s not much better than your typical EHT small batch or some single barrels. This isn’t anything you should feel good about driving hours for, it’s a fine whiskey at best. If you are a buffalo trace snob and have to have it then by all means.

Rating- 7.3 {good solid whiskey, would pay MSRP at most for such whiskey}

Nose: Significant Herbs and spice up front, caramel sweetness, orange zest and citrus underneath the herbs. You really have to like the strong herb rye spice for this to be your jam.

Palate: The spearmint and garden herbs and rye spice from the nose come right to the palate, along with some caramel sweetness and a touch of red fruits. It also has a strong dosage of clove, cinnamon and black pepper to give it a backbone, leaving your mouth with an oaky herb sweet aftertaste finish.

Overall: This isn’t really my flavor profile preference, you really have to like that herb spice for this to be your jam. It feels like it’s a well put together pour but it’s completely dependent on your palates profile preference.

6.6 Rating - Average and straight forward whiskey, profile preference flaws. Would not buy bottle personally.

Age: 10 years

• Proof/ABV: Batch 1 — 117.6 proof (58.8% ABV) — varies slightly by batch as it’s barrel proof.

• Release Date: April 22, 2026 (Batch 1 debuted at the distillery).

• Price: Retails for $195 at the Peerless Distillery

Nose: Dark and dense, with sweet tobacco as the dominant note. It’s layered with sweet oak, maple French toast, and a really appealing French vanilla ice cream character. Candied pecans and caramel candies also come through nicely.

Overall, it’s a very enjoyable and complex nose - rich, sweet, and dark, with nothing off putting. The secondary notes feel slightly restrained and don’t leap out immediately, which may be because this was my first pour and I only let it sit for about 30 minutes. With more time and air, I expect it will open up even further.

Palate and Finish: Up front, the whiskey delivers a generous amount of beautiful sweetness, featuring deep caramels and toffee alongside bittersweet dark chocolate. Mid-palate, a pleasant chocolate-covered cranberry tartness appears, while a warm cinnamon spice ramps up smoothly. The finish is long and satisfying, dominated by cherry cordial and sweet tobacco that linger for an extended time.

Overall: This is a fantastic whiskey, one of if not the best whiskey I’ve had so far this year. it’s not often you see bottles live up to a high price tag, but this one does. If you love the aged notes of tobacco and dark sweet notes without being an oak bomb, this is it. This makes me very excited for the future of peerless distillate.

Rating: 8.6/10 —— Great whiskey, at MSRP this is a for sure buy.
