What to Do After Failing a Lifeguard Class/Course?

Hello!

To provide some context, I'm 18 years old and recently applied to become a lifeguard at Hurricane Harbor for the summer season. I passed all of the initial physical requirements, including swimming 200 yards, retrieving a brick from the bottom of a 6-foot pool, and treading water without using my arms.

I then attended a four-day lifeguard certification course. On the final day, we were tested on rescue skills, scenarios, and a written exam. Although I took notes throughout the course and studied as much as I could, I ended up failing the final evaluation. I think I struggled with having to learn and apply so much information in such a short period of time.

I'm feeling disappointed, but I'm trying to figure out what my next steps should be. For anyone who has been in a similar situation, what would you recommend? Should I retake the course when I get the opportunity, or would it make more sense to transfer to another department and reapply later? I was still hired, but I was advised to work in another department instead, so that may be my only option at the moment.

I'd appreciate any advice or experiences you can share.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.
