Daschunds and swimming

Does anyone have a daschund who likes to swim? Our baby is 5 months old and we got him in winter (it’s still winter here) so we haven’t swum much. But today we went to a tidal pool and expected weenie to stay put and watch us... NO SIR he dove in like his life depended on it, and swam to us holding his head up like a snorkel.

is this okay for their backs or something we should avoid? It was soooo cute but it didn’t look very comfortable for him, I don’t want to strain his body

attached is Arlo and the shells he collected on his adventure 😅🐚

Arlo the clingy ween

Arlo is our sweet 4 month old little angel. This is my first time owning my very own pup and he is truly my dream baby. But sometimes I get so in my head about where he should be and if I’m doing a good enough job to make him well rounded and independent enough. I would say the top 2 questions are:

  1. when to start leaving him alone. we live in an apartment and there is always someone at home with him. If we do step out for 5 mins he cries most of the time. I am just so worried he will never be abled to be alone for 1 or two hours, or will be very distressed. Any tips here?

  2. the contact naps during the day…whilst I absolutely adore them- sometimes I have things to do and he refuses to nap independently. Then he gets overtired and manic. Will this improve? Will he start having moments of independent napping or taking himself onto the couch for a nap without us settling him on our laps first?
