Which London sixth forms would you recommend for medicine?
Hi everyone!
I’m currently in Year 11 and starting to look at sixth forms to apply to for September 2027. I want to study Biology, Chemistry and Maths at A-level, as I’m hoping to go into medicine in the future.
The sixth forms and colleges I’m currently considering are:
- New College
- Woodhouse College
- Brampton Manor Academy
- Harris Westminster Sixth Form
- London Academy of Excellence (LAE) Stratford
- London Academy of Excellence Tottenham
- Henrietta Barnett School
- St Olave’s Grammar School
I’ve heard people say that grammar schools are the best for getting into medicine, but I’m not sure how true that is, so I’d really appreciate some guidance.
Has anyone attended any of these sixth forms, or is anyone currently studying there? I’d love to hear about your experiences, especially the quality of teaching, workload, support with medical school applications, opportunities for work experience and how well the school prepares you for the UCAT and interviews.
I’m also wondering whether it’s better to go to a grammar school or a specialised sixth form college, or whether it doesn’t really matter as long as you get the grades and have good support.
I’m aiming for high GCSE and A-level grades, so I want to choose somewhere that will give me the best chance of achieving my goals without overlooking the importance of wellbeing and support.
Any recommendations or honest advice would be really appreciated! Thank you :)
