Do NOT sleep on Bruce's solo work!
I figured we do not talk about Bruce's solo work often, but it definitely deserves a worthy attention. To me, his music is just an extension of Iron Maiden. This is geared mostly towards new Maiden fans who have not discovered his work yet. So, let’s talk about personal rankings, few highlights from each album and your thoughts, in general.
1. The Chemical Wedding (10/10 banging masterpiece. Period. That’s it). Shows exactly why Bruce and Adrian together is a mighty force to be reckoned with.
2. Accident of Birth – same as above. (Taking the Queen, Darkside of Aquarius, Road to Hell, Accident of Birth)
3. Tyranny of Souls (Abduction, Kill Devil Hill, Power of the Sun, A Tyranny of Souls)
4. Balls to Picasso (Cyclops, Sacred Cowboys, Tears of the Dragon (obviously!))
5. Tattooed Millionaire. Classic light early 90’s rock. Bought it upon release on cassette. First introduction to Janick Gers. I really do dig it. It’s different, it’s light, it’s lovely. (Son of a Gun, Tattooed Millionaire, Born in ’58). Does anyone else think Zulu Lulu should belong in Charlotte the Harlot saga?
6. The Mandrake Project. I did not like it on the first or second listen…Then, with more opportunities to get into it, it grew on me big time, especially after hearing some of song live on his last tour. (Rain on the Graves, Resurrection Men, Eternity Has Failed, Shadow of the Gods)
7. Skunkworks. Very proggy and a step into a different direction, but still holds its own in the mid 90’s music turmoil. Took me a while to get into it back in the day. (Inertia, Solar Confinement, Headswitch, Meltdown)
