RFID tracking for Optical Store

Trying to source what i need to implement RFID tags for our frames.

I know i need the rfid labels.

i need to read and write the RFID tags

I need a printer to print the labels.

1 Question. Do i need a printer that is RFID compatible? is the added function just to encode the rfid ship?

2nd. If i get a scanner that reads and writes, do i need the printer?

3rd. shouldn't i get a scanner that also writes, so i can do on the fly corrections if i need to? otherwise if i make a mistake, i have to reprint another label with no way of correcting the label.

been in discussions with a few inventory companies. and these are the hardware packages they are offering.

Printronix T820 Writable Printer
Vanch VH-88 Reader plus Android Tablet
Wave USB Reader

or

Zebra ZD421

CSL 108 RFID Scanner

Honestly, i'm thinking it is better for me to not get a RFID label printer and just encode with a handheld?
something like this?
https://www.barcode-arena.com/chainway-c72-rfid.html

This is their video of their process.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-xiCJSGtf0

The question is, do i want to have to type in 1000 frames on that tiny screen?!?!? haha.

unless the collective hive mind here have a better method.

also, question on this entire method.

I print label, say, maui jim xxxxx model color, etc...

i add some code to identify it. For Maui Jims, there is the upc, so i add that onto the RFID label.

i attach it to the frame.

i would need some software that matches up what i scanned to what i have listed in some database right? This is what i am paying these companies for correct? there is nothing out there that will work right?

Thoughts on waverfid for inventory?

I've been searching for an inventory management system now for a few months. My latest victim of time wasting is waverfid.

https://waverfid.net/

The presentations for the most part has been extremely informative and covered most of what we need.

Input inventory

Ability to use both rfid and upc to scan

Potential integration with Nextech (our EHR)

Intergration with our vendors

What it doesn't have.

Website creation would love to see it connected.

We have to buy the scanner plus printer from them. With a little markup.

We have to buy specific rfid tags from them at $0.29 a tag

Also the monthly is $340 for first location, $120 additional location.

Anyone here uses them? Reviews?

If you don't use them, who do you guys use?

First time cutting lens for Lindberg frames

I have done traditional plastic, acetete, metal. But this is my first lindberg where it had the grooves inside the frame.

I use an ice-1500 intelligent blocker and LE-1200 pattern less edger.

I have no idea how to cut this while making the grooves? The tracer can't trace cause of the grooves.

No name framesin inventory

How do you guys keep track of frames that are not in frames data? My work's old business partner thought it would be cool to buy frames from Asia. Not one, or 10, but hundreds of the same thing. So we have thousands of odd frames that could be 20 years old. (I know this cause some of them have manufactured date of 2003)

Im trying to put them to inventory and print our barcodes but they don't appear in any database

What is the best way to track them? Granted their value is probably less than $1

Rfid equipment

What is the best equipment configuration for rfid read/write and printer?

Going to be using it for an optical company. So printing jewelry style rfid tags.

The documentation has Zebra RFD40. Works well with a sled right?

As far as rfid tags. Could I just purchase them off Alibaba? Is there a particular type I need to buy?

First meeting with Odoo rep tomorrow

So I stumbled upon Odoo after almost pulling the trigger with simplyrfid.

We are an optical company with a few locations. We use nextech for our EHR program. The company previously sold glasses but on a limited basis and want me to get them back in and I guess into the 21st century.

Some of the important things they need.

  1. Managing our frames with rfid. We have frames from $1 to $1000. So they want to keep track of them.

  2. We have thousands of uncut lenses. Most come with their own individual package so it has a upc code of their prescription. But we just want to know how many of each we have. This does not need to be rfid.

  3. Vendor management. In the past, they would order bulk frames because it ended up being cheaper, but that caused them to sit on thousands of dollar worth of inventory. Would love to be able to drop ship from the vendors. I know not all manufactures do this.

  4. Eventually go online and sell some of our sunglasses.

From what I have read, it seems like Odoo has the app feature that fits.

Im just concern I'm getting in over my head trying to implement this. Never done this before.
