Nobita receives a sweater that his mom knitted all night, but he's disappointed because it's ugly and uncomfortable to wear. At school, Shizuka and the others talk about a book that will make you cry, and Nobita reads it too, but he doesn't cry.
When Nobita got home, he found Doraemon crying and reading the same book. Nobita asked for a gadget that could make him feel emotional, and Doraemon lent him the "Emotion Goggle," which he put on his head like a magic headband, but his mother disowned him. It wasn't an emotional experience, it was disownment.
"So it wasn't disownment, but rather a touching moment?" Doraemon asks. "Since the sweater didn't please her, it'll probably take a long time before she forgives you," Doraemon says.
When Nobita tells Gian about it, Gian lets him into his house, but then asks him to deliver things and makes him do his homework.
Nobita reluctantly goes shopping because his mother asked him to. He goes back home halfway through, hoping to help his mother and get his disownment lifted, but it's no use. It seems that even the "emotional gift" can't be obtained unless the disownment is lifted.
When they returned after finishing their shopping, Gian received an anpan (sweet bean paste bun) as a reward from his mother, and he decided to give a little bit to Nobita as well.
As evening falls, Doraemon informs Nobita that he is still not disowned. Nobita is feeling cold, so Doraemon gives him his mother's sweater. Nobita is happy that it's warm and thanks his mother, which lifts the disownment and removes the "emotional shock."
