How far have you gotten in the adventure?

I'd imagine most of our collective expertise is stacked in the earlier chapters, but I'm curious about the ratio.

Specifics and stories welcome in the comments!

Fig leaves?

I'm just starting to get into quick/refrigerator pickling, and came across a suggestion I haven't seen anywhere else, which makes me cautious.

In the same way some people recommend using a grape leaf at the bottom of a jar to enhance crispiness through tannins, one internet stranger said a fig leaf also works.

I found several sources that claim fig leaves are edible, so that's promising. Plus, I've got a fig tree full of beautiful leaves. But this doesn't seem to be a widespread practice.

Does anyone have experience using fig leaves in pickling? Was it worthwhile? (And if you've got science knowledge that says this is a bad idea, please let me know!)

Amateur spherical map blueprint

My map making skills are in their infancy, so this is more of a blueprint than a ready-to-go battlemap.

I wanted a spherical map that could function on a VTT but I couldn't find any, and it turns out global projection maps get wonky at the poles in ways I didn't appreciate. Enter the football/soccerball.

Numbers and stuff: I wanted more than 32 spaces, so I subdivided each hexagon and pentagon as you see, with a smaller version of itself inside, and lines between the corners. If I counted right, we're at 212 sections now. I'm planning to just say that every section is a five foot square, regardless of the fact that they're not squares and they're clearly not a uniform size. I haven't figured out how area of effect spells work yet, so... good luck. Line of sight also gets complicated quickly, but won't be an issue for the encounter I'm using it for.

It's a little difficult to mentally assemble the map into a ball shape, so I included an annotated version to clarify where some of the sides connect, and I numbered the 'gons for easier reference and for rolling to determine random locations on the sphere.

There are several other layouts for flattened versions of this buckminsterfullerene shape, but the other versions I tried were much harder to parse. Your miles may vary, but I liked this one for its clarity about what connects where.

How would you run the Occluding Miasma?

Edit: now including a rough battlemap for my best sphere-map idea, Yes, it's a modified soccer ball, and a player who walks off one edge finds themself on the space that adjoins it.

Bonus points if your method works on a VTT like Roll20.

The map in the book is a rectangle with the prize smack-dab in the middle, but the text says they land on a sphere, which means the prize's location wouldn't be immediately obvious. It feels like it should be almost like a game of Battleship played on a spherical board, where players use their movement to investigate spaces instead of just listing coordinates. And then there's the fact that it's also covered in Cloudkill and there are baddies in the mist. I just ... don't know how to make that all work, gameplay wise.

I'm open to any suggestions (even ones contradicting my ideas) on how to run this weird little floating island.

With annotations to help keep track of which side connects where.

No annotations, just the spaces.

My party heads there soon.
What worked? What didn't? What needs extra attention to go smoothly? What entertaining surprises did your players subject you to?

Looking for Illithinoch advice

My players are almost here, and I'm looking for how it went for others.

What was fun? What was a pain? What advice do you wish you'd gotten?
