Hello! I currently work at a private university in Seattle, WA. I’ve worked there for almost 4 years and for 2 of those years I have been actively looking for another job. I’ve been applying to bigger public universities and community colleges in the Seattle area with no luck. Out of the hundreds of applications I’ve sent, I’ve only been offered an interview by 2 schools. Aside from making sure my resume and cover letter have key words, is there anything else I should be doing to get noticed? I feel very defeated right now.

Hi! I have a master's degree in Higher Education and currently work as an academic advisor at a university. I like my job, but the pay is not great for living in Seattle (about 55K/year). I have been looking for other academic advising jobs at other universities in Seattle, but I haven't had any luck. Recently, I volunteered for FIFA during the World Cup and I had a great experience (all personal/moral feelings about the organization aside). I thought about the things I loved about the experience - talking with and helping people from all over the world, being out in my community, and feeling useful. When searching for jobs that encompass these characteristics, I usually come up with customer service jobs. I'm not against customer service, but many of the jobs I have found have significantly lower pay than my current job. I'm wondering if anyone here knows of higher paying customer service-type jobs, or maybe even has a better idea of what kind of jobs I should search for. Please let me know! Thank you!
