The Meaning Behind Alexis Bledel's Octagonal Shape Diamond Ring

Setting a diamond in an eight-sided octagon shape is a beautiful departure from the traditional. While it mimics the soft look of a round ring from a distance, the sharp geometric facets bring an extra touch of glamour and structure to a standard center stone.

Octagon rings are as meaningful as they are rare. It offers blend of distinctive elegance and symbolism, the shape itself carries powerful meaning: it represents wealth and prosperity in Chinese culture and signifies fresh starts in numerology.

Gifted by her former Mad Men co-star Vincent Kartheiser, the stunning ring stands out for its vintage, Art Deco-inspired design. Here are the key details:

The Diamond: The center stone is a modified brilliant cut diamond featuring eight equal sides.

The Setting: Instead of traditional prongs, the stone is uniquely framed by an octagonal-shaped platinum bezel and features smaller pavé stones decorating the sides of the band

Are Lab-grown diamonds fake?

They are real, yes, but grown in a lab makes it much less special - someone argued online. Another commented that It’s not a real diamond if it wasn’t dug up with sweat and tears. The authenticity of lab-grown diamonds remains a heavily debated topic.

According to Steve Waddington, a gemologist, “There is nothing imaginary or fictitious about them”.

Lab-growns have the same chemical, optical, physical, and thermal characteristics as diamonds from the ground. And The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) ruled that they are REAL diamonds. The only difference is that they are lab created and are not naturally mined. Special equipment is needed to tell them apart.

They are also called ‘synthetics’ and sometimes described as ‘cultured’. Cultured diamonds grow their layers evenly. And they are generally more perfect.

One of the most significant shifts in engagement ring spending is the rise of lab-grown diamonds. Their affordability is one of the primary reasons  affluent buyers are drawn to them. Lab diamonds production also has a typically smaller carbon footprint and less  environmental disruption compared to mining, making them a responsible choice for conscious consumers.

What makes Lily Collin’s rose cut diamond special?

Rose cut diamonds were  inspired by the shape of a rose bud. They’ve been around since the 1500s and are made to optimize sparkle in candlelight which gives off soft glow and sultry luster. One of the most unique cuts because they don’t have the same intense sparkle as a round brilliant cut. They offer an antiquated look, romantic, vintage feel that stands out from modern, standardized ones. Truly, diamonds that don't look like everyone else.

Distinctive Structure: They feature a flat base and low profile, allowing them to sit closer to the skin. Which feels comfortable for everyday wear.

Unique Sparkle (Glow vs. Brilliance): They have more variation in cuts around4 to 24 facets.  And the fewer the facets, the less sparkly the stone.

Large Visual Appearance: With no pavilion, the weight is concentrated on top. A 1-carat rose cut will look physically larger and wider than a 1-carat brilliant cut.

Unique Shapes: Rose cut diamonds are known for their shape versatility - you can have rose cuts in round, oval, pear, kite, hexagon, square, and rounded square shapes.

They certainly offer a timeless aesthetic for brides-to-be who love a unique stone to cherish.
