Congenital blindness and schizophrenia
Interesting pop sci article tying together the research on the finding that people who are congenitally blind from birth don't develop schizophrenia and the development of the new glutamate receptor targeting drugs like evanamide.
It seems the brain in those individuals uses the visual cortex for other purposes besides sight and is better able to filter out extraneous signals and organize language and thoughts in a different way.
Glutamate receptor drugs target the brain signals upstream of the dopamine and serotonin receptors in a different area of the brain from current antipsychotic therapies.
