I am an adapted curriculum special ed teacher in NC, and I hold a master’s in Special Ed. I have been teaching in an elementary self contained setting for going on 4 years now. I am considering a transition out of special ed and moving into an elementary general ed teaching position. I have about 10 years of experience of leading groups of gen ed kids in after school and summer settings (non-educational settings) and am very comfortable leading larger groups of kids and forming relationships with them, but have no experience teaching a gen ed classroom. I was wondering that if I did try to transition, would any principal even consider me for a gen ed teaching position?

I teach elementary AU self-contained with two assistants. I’ve always wanted to implement visual schedules for my students, but have found that it can get overwhelming for me and my assistants when trying to get all of my students to utilize them throughout the day. What are some ways you have successfully implemented visual schedules for your classroom?

I am looking to leave self-contained due to toxic assistants. I dealt with one at a previous school, went to a new school and am now dealing with it again. Frequently leaves the classroom, gossips with my other para, doesn’t pay attention while the kids are on the playground, etc. What should I do?
