Gut check; knowing when and how to step back

So I need to adjust my training to accomodate for extra study time. Really what eats up my logistics is not necessarily the length of the workouts but the 2 or 3 a days that were part of my 8020 plan. It's much easier to study -- do a long workout-- study-- bed for focusing and maximizing my learning. Most of these maintenance plans online cut the length and intensity but not the 2 a days.

I was mainly just thinking about just keep alternating between running, swimming, and biking. Mainly zone 2 but throwing in intervals, a FTP, or threshold pace if I'm feeling strong for and lifting weights if I have extra time that afternoon. I would do this for the next couple months until I get my next exam, can reevaluate, and maybe hop onto another 8020 plan if needed.

Thoughts on a proper maintenance plan?

First Tri completed: Questions about race day

I successfully completed my first triathlon yesterday! After quite a few years of training I was finally able to do an Olympic without injury. My time was 2:38. Definitely way slower than my predicted time. I was particularly gassed after that swim and couldn't hold my FTP or threshold pace for run. Might be nutrition related as I found it hard to get things down at a high HR.

Definitely learned about myself on several parts of the course and have several questions.

When I swim I noticed I pull right hard. This matches my PT fitter who explained my R side is more muscular than the right (I have a left shoulder injury last year, but also R handed). I definitely need to work on muscle balance and swimming straight in the pool.

Right before my swim started my zoot manta wetsuit zipper snapped right before the start line! I definitely think it's the right size but I have broad shoulders. I've used it before but always had help getting it zipped prior. I might consider getting a sleeveless one instead.

On the bike course I think I ran into a couple a-holes. Since it was also my first bike race and group rise, I'm not entirely familiar on bike etiquette, but I assume left is always passing, then you should get back onto the right (just like driving). Well, there was a guy who just was hugging left the entire time and wouldn't let me pass. Then he got upset when I told him I was gonna pass him on the right.

Another time I was hugging right and some guy was passing me on the left. I thought he was gonna veer right in front of me, so I slowed down a little bit to allow him to get in front of me on the right. Then he proceeded to look at me for a few seconds and tell me I'm a piece of shit for Drafting him . He wasn't in front of me I was so confused. He was on my left hand side the entire time. Unless there was someone behind me he was talking to. Either way like dude was being an asshole, it's not that serious.

How do you deal with these 2 aforementioned people?

Packout vs Modbox

Hello

I am a simple handy enthusiast looking for a solid mobile tool chest for the home. I work around the house, on my bike, and electronics like computers. I don't work with tools as my career though. I can definitely appreciate a modular system at home (apartment) as it seems smaller and more accommodating than a solid metal one, even though those are nice. Ideally it would be great to even have a wood top to make another workstation as space is always a goal for me to improve.

I really like tough built but unfortunately they are going bankrupt, so they are not in my sights as a modular tool chest system anymore.

I did however see the Milwaukee pack out and Klein Modbox as both comparable contenders. I tried the Modbox blackout in person at lowes and it didn't leave me with a satisfaction as the toughbuilt system. Just how it slides in and out was not as easy as toughbuilt. Also, there isn't a dedicated wood top for their accessories.

I saw the pack out system online and it seems slightly more supported in accessories. But I didn't like the idea the drawers are on wheels rather than metal racks.

Anyone got opinions on these 2 or Willing to throw another system to recommend in the race?

Keeping straight OWS

Right before my first triathlon I picked up a wetsuit and was able to do some OWS in a couple lakes. Definitely built up some confidence but even in calm waters I found it tough to stay straight.

I have been using the form swim goggles and the swim straight feature is awesome but not perfect. Any non tech ways to stay straight?

Green to Ultra Endurance. My perspective

I've been using TB for many years. Even with a degree in exercise science and someone getting a medical doctorate soon, I have to admit that I haven't read any literature which I can confidently better recommend for physical training to lay people. Particularly in the realm of building strength. My education form this book has remained the foundation of how I look at training as a whole, mainly resistance training.

Few years ago I started to dip into green. Ran my first marathon on it but soon started to notice the cracks in the foundation when I tried to double the numbers for an ultra marathon I completed last year. Since, I've hopped onto a training peaks 8020 plan for an Ironman. My speed and endurance has increased dramatically. Resistance training has been reduced from improving to maintenance to resisted losses. Although that is the price of being in peak season I suppose.

Cannot wait to go back onto a Fighter Template after the season is over. I just wanted to recommend anyone else the other platforms of training to individuals who might feel like their current training feels like fitting a sphere into a square whole.

Fenix 8 Watch reboot cycle of death

I have the Fenix 8 solar 47mm. Had it for about a year and all of a sudden it started to reboot a lot. The problem recurred more and more often until about last Friday when cycling through anything would cause an immediate shutdown.

Called Garmin, they said it was a known issue with the original release of the watch and they have since updated the hardware. Something about the battery load.

I was within 9 days of warranty and they sent me a new one for free.

Although I'm not too happy about this issue, the manufacturer warranty was an easy process. I was just upset because it happened so close to my race I had to pickup a temp watch which I'll return to the store now since the new one just came in.

Anyone else have this issue. Apparently new launches they have fixed this issue.

Bottle ejection

Yesterday was a frustrating day. I was recommended a river trail for aero riding and it was extremely bumpy. I lost a gel and even a purist 26oz bottle. I am rocking gorilla cages in the rear and it somehow still ejected.

Altho I won't be using this awful route again, What can I do to prevent this in case terrain is similar on race day?
