Upcoming training class in Anniston

I have an upcoming class in Anniston. There is a 5 hour arrival window in Atlanta. Should I plan to arrive as close to the end of that time period as possible so I don’t get stuck waiting at the airport for 5 hours or do they fill up buses and send them up during that time period? In the past I have always driven so taking the bus is a new thing for me. Thank you for your advice!

Are reservists being deployed to Guam/islands

Are any reservists being deployed to Guam and the islands or is it mostly CORE’s? If people are going, what cadre’s! I haven’t been deployed in ages and am thinking of changing cadres. I miss going out!

Are any cadres hiring reservists?

Is anyone aware of upcoming openings in any cadres? So far I have seen postings for IT, log, and planning. I was wondering if people are hearing of potential hiring in their cadres. Also any idea of timing?

Thank you in advance for any feedback and advice. I worked for local EM and just completed my degree. I am anxious to start a career with FEMA even if times are tough right now.

What are people doing about references?

I am applying for non FEMA jobs and am running into an issue regarding references. I don’t currently have anyone internal to use. How are people handling requests for references when all of their former ones are no longer at the agency/working bc of the events of the past year? The people who can vouch for my skills and accomplishments on milestone projects are unemployed. Any suggestions on how to handle this are appreciated. I don’t want a lack of references at the agency to be the thing that holds me back in moving my career in a different direction. I really am looking for the stability that I just don’t see at FEMA in the coming years.

What did Cam mean…

When Cam said it was great to be back and see so many familiar and new faces what was he talking about? He was part of the hiring freeze implementation so what new faces is he referring to? Was it a reference to all the people who have come over to FEMA from DHS? I was confused. Does anyone know what he was talking about? Was it these new WMD people? Also where are they coming from, I assume DHS.

Forget Waldo where in the world is Karen?

Has anyone else noticed that Karen Evan’s photo has gone missing from fema.gov and is now an error page? Also her bio is no longer a live link. It is hard to tell if she still works for FEMA since she never really attended the morning briefs but at least in the past she existed online. Recent emails that used to come from the administrator or chief of staff (both her according to the org chart) now just come genetically from FEMA. Does anyone know what is going on-factually?

I followed the link and signed up for the review board meeting but haven’t received any sort of confirmation. Has anyone else signed up and received a link or instructions? I have my popcorn ready and don’t want to miss this!

Based on some articles it seems like the hiring freeze may be ending. Has anyone heard anything about this? It would be great to see what positions are available so we can apply and perhaps end up in a better position than we are in now ie reservist to CORE, CORE to PFT etc. Also it would be nice to head into hurricane season with a bench that wasn’t half empty…
