Unreleased Reggaeton Albums #1
Currently, this is all from Pina Records, with the exception of the last album.
So as I was digging on Discogs I discovered these from album booklets because that’s where planned albums are usually found, and they paint an interesting picture
Jenay - No Me Parezco a Nadie (2003)
Sadly, I don’t think we’ve had a Jenay studio album to date, and we especially will not get one as he is no longer with us. I’m not quite sure why this album never came out, but Jenay was signed under Master Joe & OG Black’s wing of Pina Records, Diamond Collections. This is where DJ Blass lived and nearly every Jenay song during this time period we’ve heard was produced by Blass, so this album definitely would’ve been up there with Yakaleo and Dando Cocotazos. Maybe Pina just didn’t think he was as good as Speedy? Label politics? Who knows
Lito MC Cassidy - Rompe Cuello and Polaco - Bien Zafao (2004-2005)
You remember when Wisin & Yandel released solo albums shortly after De Otra Manera? It seems like Lito & Polaco were planning to do the same. These albums were teased in the Fuera de Serie Live booklets, but given the fact its main album failed to sell, it’s not hard to see why these albums didn’t come out, if they even were recorded. Also, the FDS live album came right at the end of LP’s tenure at Pina, because they left the label almost immediately after it came out, so that too. We’ve had a taste of solo Polaco with “La Demoledora” off of Eliel’s album and “Fuetazo” on DJ Joe’s album, Lito… uh… I don’t think I’ve seen much of him being solo besides on Bandoleros
Don Chezina - Llego El Masta (2003)
The Don Chezina drama with Pina is well documented and there were even rumors of them fighting in a bar. Instead of a studio album, we instead got a Greatest Hits album from Chezina and he left Pina on bad terms shortly after. It would’ve been nice to hear Chezina on an actual reggaeton-focused album, given his 97 album Bien Guillao de Gangster was mostly rap
MC Ceja - Kan Sun (2003)
I… honestly do not have a clue. I don’t know why MC Ce—uh, El C-Jon was signed to Pina in 2003. He appeared on Conspiracion II and Da Company: Los Mas Duros, but I have my reasons to think he wasn’t actually signed. Like Pina might not have been his “home”, mostly cuz I don’t believe he fixed his relationship with Lito & Polaco THAT quickly (given the tiraeras on La Mision 3 and Sopranos), but I mean, it’s on paper and on wax so I’m guessing it was supposed to come out
Wisin & Yandel, Alexis & Fido, & Tony Dize - Los Vaqueros (2004)
The ORIGINAL Los Vaqueros, long before Pa’l Mundo. The story behind it is that it was under development after Wisin’s El Sobreviviente album in 2004. This would be Alexis & Fido’s first full project under Fresh Productions before Wisin & Yandel left. I do believe Yomi Fresh was fighting legal issues at this time which might’ve choked Fresh Productions thus stalling the album sessions. It was teased for the final time in La Mision 4: The Takeover, however, labeled as a WY studio album as opposed to a group compilation. Once WY signed to Machete Music, they introduced new Vaqueros Franco el Gorilla and Gadiel to public eye on Sangre Nueva and Alexis & Fido notably parted ways with Wisin & Yandel and signed to Sony instead. We were likely going to hear an album that sounded exactly like what we had heard on La Mision 4, although it would be interesting to hear what Yandel could’ve sounded like between Quien Contra Mi era and Pa’l Mundo era
