Budget stay near NIT Sikkim (Ravangla) for one night before reporting?

Hi everyone!

I'm joining NIT Sikkim (B.Tech CSE) this year. I'll be reaching Ravangla at around 7:00 PM with my parent.

The admission office has informed me that I'll complete physical reporting on next day and move into the hostel that day. So, my parent and I need a place to stay for one night.

Could anyone please suggest:

  1. Budget-friendly and clean hotels/homestays near NIT Sikkim (Ravangla Campus).

  2. Approximate room charges per night.

  3. Safe places that are within walking distance or a short taxi ride from the campus.

  4. Whether I should book a room in advance or if it's easy to find one after reaching around 7:00 PM.

  5. Any hotels or homestays that you would personally recommend (or advise avoiding).

Thank you so much for your help! Looking forward to joining NIT Sikkim. 😊

Hello everyone!

I’m joining NIT Sikkim for B.Tech CSE this year. so this will be my first time staying in Sikkim and living away from home.

I’d really appreciate some practical advice from people who are familiar with Ravangla/NIT Sikkim.

  8. Which mobile network generally works best around Ravangla?

  9. How reliable is the internet/Wi-Fi around the student accommodation?

  10. How is the food situation around NIT Sikkim and Ravangla?

  11. Are there any important documents or other things that newcomers commonly forget?

  12. For a student coming from Nepal, is there anything important I should know about payments, banking or UPI in India?

  13. What are some common mistakes that new students should avoid?

  14. For CSE students, what would you recommend focusing on during the first year?

  15. Are there any student clubs, activities or communities that are particularly worth joining?

  16. What small everyday items do students often realize they forgot after moving here?

  17. What medical facilities are available nearby, and should I bring a basic first-aid kit?

  18. What sports, gym or other recreational facilities are available?

  19. What is student life generally like around Ravangla?

  20. Roughly how much money should a student keep for personal expenses each month?

  21. What places around Ravangla/Sikkim are worth visiting during free time?

  22. What is one thing you wish you had known before moving to Sikkim?

  23. Is there anything else you would recommend to someone coming to NIT Sikkim for the first time?

Any advice from current students, seniors or even people familiar with Ravangla would be really helpful.

Thanks!

Joining NIT Sikkim CSE (2026) as a Fresher from Nepal. Need advice from seniors!

Hello everyone!

I have recently received a provisional admission offer for B.Tech. Computer Science and Engineering at NIT Sikkim through the Study in India (SII) programme. I am from Nepal, and this will be my first time living away from home.

I would be really grateful if seniors and current students could answer these questions:

  1. What clothes should I pack for the entire year? ( Casual, formals, jackets with fur)

  2. How cold does it get during winter? Is a heavy jacket enough, or should I carry thermals, gloves, woollen caps, etc.?

  3. How is the weather during the rainy season? Should I bring raincoats, umbrellas, waterproof shoes, or other essentials?

  4. What type of footwear should I bring? How many pairs would you recommend?

  5. What hostel essentials should I carry from home? (Bedsheets, blanket, pillow, bucket, mug, locks, hangers, extension board, laundry bag, etc.)

  6. Are there any items that are difficult to find or expensive near the campus that I should bring from Nepal?

  7. What electronic gadgets and accessories are essential? (Laptop, mouse, keyboard, LAN cable, power bank, headphones, extension board, etc.)

  8. Which SIM card provides the best network coverage on or near the campus?

  9. How good is the hostel Wi-Fi? Is it sufficient for coding, classes, and downloads?

  10. How is the mess food? Is it good, and what should I expect?

  11. What original documents and photocopies should I bring during reporting?

  12. As a Nepali student, what should I know about banking, UPI, and opening an Indian bank account?

  13. What are the most common mistakes freshers make that I should avoid?

  14. What advice would you give specifically to a first-year CSE student regarding academics, coding, clubs, hackathons, internships, and placements?

  15. Which clubs or student chapters should I join in the first year?

  16. What daily-use items do most freshers forget to bring?

  17. Are there any medical facilities on campus? Should I carry a personal first-aid kit or any medicines?

  18. Is there any gym, sports facility, or indoor games available on campus?

  19. What is the typical daily routine of a first-year student?

  20. Approximately how much monthly pocket money is sufficient?

  21. What are the best places to visit around the campus during weekends?

  22. If you could go back to your first day at NIT Sikkim, what advice would you give yourself?

  23. Is there anything else that every fresher should know before joining NIT Sikkim?

Thank you so much for your time! I'm really excited to join NIT Sikkim and look forward to learning from all of you. 😊
