Previous fibroadenoma now has new suspicious neighbor (superficial, antiparallel, BIRADS 4)—I’m terribly scared
Hello all. I am 46 yo. today I had a diagnostic US following an abnormal screening mammogram. it revealed a new mass since my last mammogram (July 2025). it is located close to the skin, is slightly lobular, and antiparallel (taller than wide). I’m not sure of its size, but it’s smaller than a previously diagnosed, roughly 1 cm fibroadenoma right next to it. the radiologist is concerned about its abnormal edges and I’m going for a biopsy in a couple weeks.
i am terrified. it is BIRADS 4 (I wasn’t given A, B, or C) and described as “suspicious“ in the report. next to the nice clean oval that is my fibroadenoma, it even looks mean and scary. i am both glad that I do regular mammograms (I would never have felt this myself) and stunned that something so sinister looking could pop up in one year. I’m also confused by its proximity to the harmless fibroadenoma—I don’t know if that’s just a coincidence or if somehow one led to the other.
has anyone been in a similar boat? and whether your mass was determined to be benign or malignant, how did things turn out, and how are you doing now? thank you so much, I feel like any insight is helpful and I appreciate your reading this far.
