The most patient impatient dog

How can I dog that has this much energy sit and stare at trees for hours at a time on high alert. They are an incredible breed.

2000 Volvo Penta 4.3 water temp sensor

Last year I rebuild my 4.3, including a new intake manifold. I put the water temp sensor back in what I thought was the correct location by I am getting no reading at the gauge. Did I stick it in the wrong hole? Yes I also realize I have it disconnected right now.

Neighbour Yelling at Dog and Kids

Hello,

We are a family of four with two boys, ages 8 and 12, along with our 3 year old female GSP. She is a fantastic dog with a ton of energy, and we run her hard every day. We live on a fairly large property with 30 to 40 mature trees, lots of squirrels, rabbits, and other critters around, which our dog absolutely loves. One of her favourite things to do is sit outside and scan the trees, sometimes for hours. A few times throughout the day she may bark at a squirrel or another animal for a minute or two, and if I hear it, I usually head out and redirect her into something else.

We back onto several neighbours, about seven in total. One neighbour who moved in last year has, since pretty much day one, yelled over the fence at both our dog and, at times, our kids while they are outside playing. What I find interesting is that it only ever seems to happen when I am not outside. If he sees me, he immediately turns around and walks away. We actually invited them over for a BBQ shortly after they moved in and there was never any mention of concerns or issues.

I also recently found out from another neighbour that he yelled at their son for bouncing a basketball off the fence after missing the net.

I have tried to speak with him directly, but he does not answer the door, and honestly I do not think trying to have a conversation through a fence is the right approach. I completely understand that barking can annoy people sometimes, and I try to be respectful about it. At the same time, this is a neighbourhood with several dogs, including their own.

Where I really draw the line is yelling and swearing at my kids instead of simply coming to speak with me or my wife directly.

At this point I am stuck on what the best next step is. Is this the kind of person where a rational conversation is even possible, or is it better to just continue being respectful, ignore the behaviour as much as possible, and respond with kindness while setting boundaries where needed?

Curious to hear people’s thoughts.
