I had a realization today

A lot of the people who are hating on the Odyssey will also claim that Dune 3 is their most anticipated movie of the year. I realized that everything people are complaining about with the Odyssey can be applied to Dune 3. The main complaints about the Odyssey are

Cast members inaccurate to the source material
Modern language
Overuse of A list actors like Zendaya and Robert Pattinson

The American accents actually make sense

A question that was posed recently was this when did America stop using a British accent and adopt their normal American dialect? The truth is that the American accent is the original British accent. The British accent we know today was adopted in the 19th century to set apart upper-class British citizens, but now the whole country uses it. In that sense the proper way to listen to Shakespeare is in an American accent. I know we’re all comfortable listening to British accents when watching films based on ancient civilizations, but trust me, you don’t wanna hear Matt Damon‘s British accent. Or John Bernthal say “Oi lemme tell u sumthing”.

The Odyssey is “woke”

Here is a breakdown of the cast, as you can see it is still overwhelmingly white, and yet the racists are still raging that any inclusion is happening at all.

White: 35 (74%)
Black: 5 (11%)
Asian: 2 (4%)
Hispanic: 4 (9%)
Trans: 1 (2%)

People who don’t like Lupita as Helen are racist

There is no excuse to not like the casting for Helen other than racism. You can try to disguise it under the pretense of wanting the cast to be historically accurate, well guess what, Bronze Age Greece was not a land of white people like you may think it is. The whole Mediterranean had a complex system of trade routes between Africa and other Mediterranean countries. If you want proof there were black people in Ancient Greece, just look at a map of the world and zoom in on Greece and see how close it is to Libya and Egypt. Now there is the other side of the argument that you want a cast accurate to the descriptions in the story, and I just finished reading the Odyssey, and I don’t think anyone complaining about Helen has actually read it. There is maybe half a line where they call her a pale armed queen which could be interpreted to mean she is white. Where as anytime they talk about Menelaus, he is called the “red haired king”. Why have I not heard anyone outraged that he is bald in the movie? Why do you only care about them casting a single black woman in a huge cast of characters? It’s cus ya racist

Achilles and Helen are barely in the Odyssey

First of all, Elliot Page is likely not playing Achilles, but even if he was, it would only be for one scene. I’m re reading the Odyssey right now and he is only there for like half a page. Same with Helen, she only appears in part of one chapter. People are acting like they are going to be the main characters in the movie when I bet they will only have like 10 minutes of screen time max.

Will the Odyssey get review bombed?

I feel like with all the outrage about the castings, confirmed roles and unconfirmed roles. The conservative mob seems to be banding together to boycott this movie. I feel like people shouldn’t really care about reviews but I do.

Can we stop spreading the rumor that Elliot Page is Achilles

Seriously I feel like so many creators are just using this misinformation to farm for content because of the public outrage even though there is basically no proof he is playing Achilles. The only reason it’s a theory at all is because there is a 3 second clip in the trailer where we see him as a ghost in the underworld, but Odysseus meets a ton of ghosts besides just Achilles, he could be playing Ajax for all we know. I still think the theory about him playing Elpenor makes the most sense considering the photo of him included with Odysseus’ crew, and the line we hear him say in the trailer is not something Achilles would say.
