Just applied, need help!
G'day everyone,
I've always dreamed of becoming a Firefighter but because of some foolish decisions made in my teens I've had to wait 10 years for a criminal damage (non-conviction) to become spent. Since then I've worked towards this goal, studied a bachelors degree, served time in the Army and have picked up a trade and worked a steady job for years. My question is how extensive is the background check? They ask if you've ever been charged on the application but my lawyer advised me that because the charges are spent you're legally not obliged to list any offences. Can somebody who's been through the process please advise me? I don't want to mislead anyone or be dishonest but I also don't want to shoot myself in the foot if it's to no avail. I already have an NV1 security clearance through Army. Any advice would be appreciated, thank you.
