Dallas Urbanist with a Toddler?

My wife and I are planning on moving to Dallas with our two year old next year and are trying to pick an area with schmancy condos, that is walkable. We don't want a single family house right now. We want to rent, and have amenities. We don't have a commute so that's not a big worry. Is there anywhere we should look beyond downtown/uptown and the rest of the central core?

More context if it helps:

We are moving from another city in Texas. My wife grew up in Dallas and we want to be close to family. But after living in a single family home and driving everywhere for a long time we want more walking and transit in our lives. My wife used to live in a walkable condo and loved that lifestyle. From a distance I am eyeing Atelier, Peridot, and Amli Fountainplace. But I haven't come in for any tours or researched outside the central core. On the one hand spending weekends with our toddler in Klyde Warren Park and exploring the museums sounds wonderful. On the other I am wondering if there is a part of town that I am not considering that would be more kid friendly?
